It's not a cover,it's not even a band. The most moving rendition of a Beatles song that I've ever seen was by a young East German student shortly after the Berlin wall came down. It was on Nightline. He did an accoustic guitar version of Eight Days a Week and his singing brought me to tears. The whole situation was very emotional. He said Beatles music was one of the things that got smuggled into East Germany, the communists banned it,but everybody got a hold of it anyway. He was so happy that he could now openly buy their records and sing their songs. He said The Beatles were one of the great symbols of freedom. He sang that song with pure joy. I've loved Eight Days a Week-any version of it-ever since.

awwwww, that sounds really great! what an experience

Its a toss up between Bing Crosby doing "Hey Jude", and Ella Fitzgerald doing "Savoy Truffle".  Choose your weapon.

I love Shawn Colvin and she recently released her 'Greatest Hits' which has a pretty version of 'I'll Be Back'.

LeeAnn Rimes does a nice country-fied version of Yesterday.

One of the five hundred, anyhow. x3

^^the studio versions are best but here are some live performances

dated and corny and the song doesn't start till the 3 minute mark
. . but down right skilled . . karen on drums
Ticket To Ride & Intro - Carpenters 1972 'Live In Australia'

had some technical diffuculties but he . . . . worked it out
Stevie Wonder - We Can Work It Out (32nd Grammy Awards)(4/9)

jimi's cover first debuted three days after the original came out -
with paul mccartney in the audience
Jimi Hendrix - Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band

....

and i'll post the studio version for this . . the highly underrated billy paul :)
Billy Paul - Let em in

Wow, nyfan, that Hendrix cover was awesome. All the more so for the reasons you gave - THREE days after it was released, with Paul in the audience!

As much as Paul loved the George and the Beatles, I'll bet he was at least wondering what it would be like to have Jimi Hendrix as his lead guitarist ...

This is a version of Eleanor Rigby that's definitely worth listening to:

Well, the boy knows all the notes, that's for sure. But it has no feeling, for me. Just loads of clever technique and little else. Really, I couldn't wait until it finished.
