I'd like to remember a couple of drummers who are rarely mentioned, but I've always enjoyed: Mike Clarke from the Byrds; and Hugh Grundy from the Zombies. I think both had a Ringo-like style, doing what the song actually needs.

I See You (The Byrds, 1966)

He did. Makes you wonder.

I mean. "Paul" did seem to drum more on Beatle records after 1967...

Dino Danelli is one of my all time favorites too.  I just played 'Lonely Too Long' the other day.  Love the Rascals.

Love the Rascals.

Me too, Todd!  And they were a local group from New Jersey.  I saw them in person when they performed on The United Cerebral Palsy Telethon in 1967.  They didn't need to promote themselves already having a few hits but they came on in the middle of the night to liven things up.  They were friendly and didn't hesitate to talk with us between television feeds.  It was unbelievable how they could make a single guitar and an organ sound so full.

Thanks Barry.  The first drum set I ever bought was a used set of Rogers that were white and had black stripes on them making them look like Alex Van Halens kit.  They came with a couple roto toms that I used when I played Van Halen stuff.  I always thought Alex was a very good drummer, but I didnt like his over use of the cymbals.  Just way too much.

On another note, I caused a trainwreck at church today.  We have a new guitar player playing with us and he's really technically good, but is a horrible time keeper, so I was asked to count off before every song or start playing the groove so everybody could fall in.  Well we just got done playing 'Victors Crown' and its a show stopper that kicks.  After the song was over we went into a slower song in 6/8.  I just could not feel it and my groove was all wrong.  Took the band 2 verses before we got on track.  It was bad.

Don't fret, Todd.  We all have days like that.  Next Sunday you'll be a metronome.  ;)

What's the story behind the fire extinguisher on Alex Van Halen's kit?

The fire extinguishers were just for visuals.  They had no real purpose.

Here's the black striped design that my used set of Rogers were decorated like by the previous owner.

People would look at that kit and ask if I was a huge Van Halen fan.  They looked shocked when I told them I couldnt stand them.  Lol.

In 1964, it was fun to watch The Honeycombs play their hit Have I The Right...

There was a brother and sister in this band, Honey Lantree on drums and her brother John Lantree on bass.   icon_good

There weren't too many female drummers in the early 60s.

Todd, just out of interest, could you post a list of say, your top 10 drumming performances in pop/rock history? Not live stuff just from studio recordings    Cheers TIA
