Memorial Concert for John
« on: May 05, 2005, 08:03:23 PM »

A memorial concert for John Lennon was held in Liverpool 15years ago today. Both Ringo and Paul participated in some way but George didn't.

You can buy it on DVD somewhere...

I'd like to say thank you on behalf of the group and ourselves, and I hope we pass the audition.

So you're angry at George for not going? Do you know why he didn't go? If you don't, how can you be angry at him?

Might be the reason he didnt go. Thats what it has to do with it.

Assuming George was a prude (and how would ya know?, but that's another angle), how would that be the reason he didn't go?

Come on Tkitna, I'm not getting at you! Just tell us what's in your head!

All i'm saying is that i've seen hermit crabs with better social status than George. He really didnt seem to get out much, did he? Plus, I feel he had a chip on his shoulder since 1969 concerning the other guys.

Dont make so much into it. After all, as you've said many times before, its a public forum and we're all entitled to our opinions.

Yes, but it's a forum. We're supposed to discuss, explain, enlarge - not merely assert.

Anyway, nothing you've said in your last post seems to have anything to do with George being a prude! A prude is someone who is overly prim, or easily offended by 'naughty' words or actions. That's the reason I was wanting you to expand on what you said: I wouldn't have called George a prude, myself. I'm thinking that you have a different understanding of 'prude' to what I have.

Prude - One who is excessively concerned with being or appearing to be proper, modest, or righteous.

or, a definition that fits an example of Ydoll perfectly -

prude
A person who's Superego overwhelms their Id.

How cute: sadly though, I have to tell you you have missed the point.

That first def of prude is OK - providing you realize that it means 'proper, modest, righteous' in a sexual purity sense. Prudes don't like to use or hear swearing, even of very mild sorts. They don't like clothing that reveals what they consider too much flesh, or clothing that is provocative sexually. They don't like behavior that is in the least lewd, 'immoral' sexually, etc. I doubt if George was a prude in these senses.

He was certainly a 'righteous' man, in the sense of being sure of what is a (a, not the, note) correct pathway to 'god'. Righteous has lots of meanings, but trying to apply 'prude' to George via one of the other meanings of righteous is intellectually dishonest.

As to the other definition
Quote
A person who's Superego overwhelms their Id.
, I wonder if you actually know what it means? If a person's 'superego' overwhelms their 'id', that simply means that their 'moral conscience' prohibits their 'basic instincts'. It's a Freudian idea, this id/ego/superego thing. A Freudian would possibly agree that a prude IS such a person.

But in reckoning that the definition could apply to me, clearly you have made the schoolboy mistake of thinking that the 'super' in 'superego' means big, or bloated. It doesn't - it means simply 'above'. So superego means above self (= ego).

There ya go, mate!

Not so. I really didn't know what he meant when he said George didn't go because he was a prude.

If ya go back and follow what was said, it was Tkitna that got bad-mannered first!
