I don't like those cell phone commercials. They use songs to make it seem like artists are promoting their company. Rogers Wireless was giving out tickets to the Avril Lavigne concert and they were making it look like she was hawking for their company. Which she would never do. For any company. But anyways.

Okay, now THAT I'm interested in. I don't think Green Day is on the top of anything. If ever they were on the top, it was in the 90's. They're making a big mistake marketing this album the way they are. All the cell phone commercial ads and crap. It's making them seem very ordinary. I'm not crazy about American Idiot. I think they were going for some great new innovative thing claiming it to be a "Punk Opera." It didn't quite have the same impact on today's pop culture as Tommy did now did it?

True "Tommy" is a masterpiece from a band that mirrors Green day in that "Green Day" is associated with "punk moovement" and the "Who" had their own movement called "Mods"!

Wow, they did cell phone commercials? Well I didn't know that. That's not very punk.
"YOU" missed the whole point of the new Green Day as ststed by the lead singer they don't want to be the best "PUNK" band they want to be the best "BAND" going that's out there! Punk scene is only a small fraction of the music buying public! They now want it all!!!!!!!

'course, there are some high school bands that do nothing but cover Green Day. It doesn't take much to learn the American Idiot singles, really. Because they hadn't heard of the band until that album came out (much like The Who and Tommy in a way. :o) . . .

I guess Green Day was trying to say something with American Idiot -- I haven't sat down and listened to the whole thing, just parts of the CD, but... the kids covering it generally have no idea what htey meant. And it's lame to cover "punk" if you don't get it. Like that. Yeah. Shutting up now. :D

PS: September's way over, someone should seriously wake them up now.

I was surprised at how successful that single was. To be honest, I thought St. Jimmy would've been more commercially successful.

I like their recent album the best. It's got more distinction. They are definitly improving. It beats the other stuff they are playing on the radio recently (or should I say overplaying) but then again they are overplayed a bit over here but they are the better out of the overplayed. If that made any since...

I wonder who has the copyrights... They might not have had any say in it...

And wouldn't punk be doing whatever the hell you please?

I didn't heard Green Day until American Idiot. This album is really ROCKs!!! I'm listening to not much modern music and there is only two artists I like for the present Green Day and Franz Ferdinand. Now listening to Bullet in a Bible! I'll buy a DVD for sure!

Bullet In A Bible is a CD + DVD package... Or did you download it?

And I still think any of the first three Green Day album EASILY kicks American Idiot's ass.

forget american idiot, radiohead's coming up with a new album!!

A sugarcoated Pink Floyd with less expierimentally courage and more pop-friendliness.

And relating to Green Day, American Idiot is NOT punk. Much to artsy. Holiday has a Watersian political metaphor sprayed throughout well Wake Me Up When September ends is a more folky, Dylanesque work, and American Idiot is an overt rip-off of The Clash. Then there's a progish ballad in Boulevard Of Broken Dreams, and St. Jimmy a McCartney-ish rocker, albeit "punked up".

Throughout their careers Green Day have compromised their brilliant musicianship by exploiting what a young generation percieves to be Punk. Although they are great, they claim to be something they are not so that high schoolers will continue to buy their records.

I agree. I've always sensed more of an Angus Young in Billie Joe than a Johnny Rotten.

Ummm, if a band has been abround for ten years and had how many platinum records, then that's the antithesis of punk, Not that I'm into the classification game anyway.

My favorite Green Day song is easily Brain Stew. I'm on AderholXR so that's what I think of when I hear of it.
