John & Paul's First Meeting
« on: December 17, 2004, 03:12:54 AM »

I read somewhere that John & Paul meet coincidentally before they where first introduced to each other in 1957.  I read that they bumped into each other at a resturaunt a week before the official meeting but they never said "Hi," to each other or anything.  Anyways does anyone know if this is true?

I don't believe that story. Just  in the moment I read , what John said in "ANTHOLOGY" and what  PHILIP NORMAN wrote in his Beatles biography "SHOUT", published in 1981. Both tell the same story: It was Ivan Vaughan, who brought Paul to the GARDEN FETE in St.Peter's Church Field at the 6.th of July in 1957. There's no indication of a coincidentally meeting in a restaurant before. Forget it, I think. Klaus

All I know about this is from a Guiliano-book and we all know that he isn't a reliable source. This is what he wrote:

"The seed that would one day blossom into the songwriting collective known as Lennon and McCartney was sown when they greeted each other in passing outside a local suburban chippy late in the spring of 1957. Following that first brief encounter Paul recalls seeing John climbing aboard the number 86 bus bound for town a couple of uneventful weeks later."

Well only John and Paul would truly know.  I would probably stick to the fete meeting as it seems to be the most popular.  Besides, how many times do we remember someone we saw jumping on a bus?

Meeting at the fete brings a better image to mind anyway!   ;D
