Favorite Song From the Medley
« on: October 18, 2016, 05:26:14 PM »

What is your favorite song from the Abbey Road medley?

It's hard to chose, but it has to be either The End or She Came in Through the Bathroom Window for me.

I like the story behind SCITTBW and I really like the last verse of The End. And I, of course, like the songs themselves.

Have we settled when the medley starts? Some place it at Sun King, some at Because and some at YNGMYM

It starts with YNGMYM. I haven't listened to Abbey Road in a bit, but from what I remember, there wasn't the fade transition after Because.

"The End", for sure. But "You Never Give Me Your Money" and "Polythene Pam" have always been two of the best moments for me.

I still don't know if "Because" is part of the Medley (I'm sure "Here Comes The Sun" is not). Anyway, "Because" is another of my favorite songs from Abbey Road.

There's not a transition after "Because", but neither after "She Came In Through The Barthroom Window". I think it depends on the concept of the Medley. For instance, "Because" seems to give the illusion of incompleteness, such as the other tracks from the Medley.

That's right.  Because doesn't end on its root and it's almost like the first note of YNGMYM is the resolution to the end of Because.

I recall when I first started listening to Abbey Road I thought of the second side as two medleys. One ending with She Came in Through, then another beginning with Golden Slumbers.  Only as I read more and kept seeing the second side referred to as "the medley" did I begin to think of it as one long medley.

Regardless of beginning and end points I'd probably plump for Golden Slumbers. Although YNGMYM is a great song in its own right.

The End is great too. It's main attraction is the way they perfectly end the Beatles recording career with the last line. A poignant goodbye to the fans.

The merge into Sun King is divine. And the merge into She Came In Through The Bathroom Window is also awesome.

By a long chalk for me the outstanding pinnacle of the medley is "Polythene Pam". I have always regretted that it was not fleshed out into a fully fledged, stand alone track. It's a tantalising reminder of The Beatles enduring capability as a blisteringly great rock group. Superb.

I've said this a few times over the years, each song someone here called out as their fav of the medley is great AND improved by the concept of the medley.  The unfinished versions are tremendous and we all might agree the full versions of Pam or one of the others would be awesome, then the medley wouldn't be what it is either.  I'm guessing that is why none of the parts ever were played around with as far as extending them.  Are there any that have alternate longer versions?

I said Because was my fav earlier, chose that on that day.  Reading other choices it is easy to agree with each of you too.  The medley, taken as a single entity, might be my favorite Beatle "song"

Yes, the medley is an outstanding collection of songs. I'm quite partial to Golden Slumbers.

Ringo's drum solo.  I never liked side two of Abbey Road.

blmeanie:  I need to revise my comment.  I loved "Here comes the Sun" and I liked "Carry that weight" and "The End."  I think Ringo's drum solo should have its own name.  I probably liked that the most because I used to be a drummer and I thought it was such a great musical-type drum solo.  My fav from side one has always been "I want you/She's so heavy."  Maybe I should give the whole album another listen.  It's actually my least-listened-to album of the Beatles.

Now that I re-read this, it sounds like I did like Side Two more than I thought I did!
