Hey all you out there............did you hear that in June a DVD will be released showing the making of the Beatles' "Love" show by Cirque du Soliel??? You all probably know about this now. And it's gonna be dedicated to the late, great Neil Aspinall. Are any of you going to buy it??? I know I will.
-
I probably will, too. I'll probably check with the first buyers to see if the issuers did anything retarded on it, then probably purchase (you know, loused up the sound or something).
This will be the only way I'll ever see the show, as there is no way I will ever go to Las Vegas. I really want it destroyed. It is wrong to build a city in a desert and use up all those resources (says someone in the water-strapped west). I would be responsible; I would evacuate everyone in an orderly fashion. Then I would obliterate it with a giant rock from space.
So, yes! The answer is probably yes. :)
-
^^^^^I'm going to definitely buy it. Like you said, it's the only way I'll ever go to Vegas and see the show............I don't have money for a trip like that....... :(
But I think it's gonna be more of the making of it and all the rehearsals, I think....
-
I saw the show, and will probably buy the dvd. The show was amazing. Of course, the dvd won't be the same thing, but I would like to buy it because at times, there was so much going on in the show that I might have missed some of it.
And I love Las Vegas. I love the gambling, I love the drinking... I love it all! Please don't destroy it for my own selfish reasons ;D
-
HeatherBoo, I appreciate what you're saying. Many people find great enjoyment in Las Vegas. Be assured I will certainly give you fair warning to clear out when I call down the giant space rock to destroy it all!
I would be very interested to hear your comments on the DVD after watching the live show. I've seen a couple of CdS shows here in Denver. Really amazing and always a million things to look at. So please let me know what I'm missing by seeing only the DVD. :)
-
K thanks for the fair warning! I just love Sin City 8)
Yes, I will be sure to comment after watching the DVD.
The show got mixed reviews. Most of the people who disliked the show however did not like it becuase they had seen other Cique du Soliel shows and were expecting more tricks and stunts. And while Love did have tricks and stunts, it was more to tell a story. Each song had a different scene. They interpreted the song with dance and props and stunts and tricks. It was very enjoyable and entertaining. Especially so if you love The Beatles.
I hope I didn't bother the people around me as I sang along to every song. Not alot of people were rocking out! I couldn't help myself ;D
-
I would so buy it!!!
I love that CD and would LOVE to go see it!
-
im looking forward to this i always wondered why they hadnt released this show on dvd before now.
-
I want it so bad, I watched some of it at the grammy's I want to say
-
i would rather see the show live than on dvd, why dosen't it show in the UK?? :-/
-
because theirs only one LAS VEGAS BABY! :P
just kidding, I don't know.
-
I'm pretty sure its only in Las vegas because Cique Du Soliel does all of their shows in Las Vegas. They have quite a few going on right now out there. And they are making some serious money too. I paid $160 bucks for my ticket and they were in the middle of the theater.

^^^^^OH MY GOD!!!! I LOVE IT!!!! I can't wait for the release!!!!!

there is no way I will ever go to Las Vegas. I really want it destroyed.
;D
Las Vegas is the Rush Limbaugh of cities: it's almost impossible to overstate its absurdity and foolishness. Your hit-it-with-a-giant-rock-from-space idea has real merit, but I fear the explosion will only succeed in spreading a lot of really intolerable bits of rubbish over far too wide an area. I say quarantine the whole city, seal it up in some sort of giant impregnable bubble, and launch it into the sun. 8)
-
:o :o
-
;D Poor Heather is feeling the heat!
Las Vegas is the Rush Limbaugh of cities:
I'm dying! What a quote.
I say quarantine the whole city, seal it up in some sort of giant impregnable bubble, and launch it into the sun.
I think sealing it in an impregnable bubble will suffice. We did this at college to a small loaf of bread. We hadn't intended to. The loaf got pushed to the back of the closet and when we discovered it again, it was this green, liquidy thing, still with slice marks, but a true slime mold hybrid that had started to melt through the wooden pantry shelf. So naturally we saved it in a beaker for further study.
Over the course of years, "the bread" (as it come to be known) went through a series of toxic changes, turning all shades of orange, brown, grey, etc. Every few years (yes, this was a long experiment; "the bread" followed us from college) we'd open it-- outside, prepared to run. The stench was unbelievable. It was an amazing potential weapon.
Then, finally, after being lost in the basement for some time, we found it again. The liquid in the vial was absolutely clear. When we opened it, it was the scent of fresh oranges.
Las Vegas, this is your future!!!!
====
Man, I'm not supposed to do this. I'm not supposed to get off-topic.
Wow, I really look forward to that "Love" Cirque du Soleil DVD. :o
-

Oh God, so that's what that stuff in the back of my fridge is. I thought it had something to do with the condenser.
But obviously I'm only kidding about Las Vegas. I'd be fine with the place if they'd just get rid of the Drive Thru Church Of Elvis / Celine Dion type of thing.

We're referring to the Strip of course as most of Las Vegas is quite normal. Suburbs with hard working families just like anyplace else. I know people who live there and they're actually very nice. I think it's too bad people won't go see LOVE because it's in Vegas. It's an AMAZING experience. I don't have a problem visiting. It's become more like Disney than anything else. A lot of shopping and rides. As for the other attractions, anything consenting adults want to do with their free time is their own business. Who am I to judge.
-
I'm not faulting anything about Las Vegas, its attractions, or its people. Just its location. It sucks up huge amounts of water and energy that could be far more wisely used than creating a playground in the middle of the desert. We out west live and die by our water. Such extravagant waste seems criminal to me.
-
;D I am loving the bread experiment! I can only imagine how extremely disgusting that "bread" had gotten!
:D Las Vegas is the Rush Limbaugh of cities ;D
You guys are too funny!
Hey, to save water they can go ahead and relocate Vegas if they want, no problem! Funny thing is Harihead, I should be more concerned with California's water myself. My mother works for Ca Dept of Water Resources!
And I love that Vegas has a drive-thru wedding chapel, if i ever get married while in vegas, I want it to be in a drive thru wedding chapel ;D ;D
Oh, yea and the Love rocks!
-
And I love that Vegas has a drive-thru wedding chapel, if i ever get married while in vegas, I want it to be in a drive thru wedding chapel
Cheers, Heather: I hope it was obvious from the git-go that I was just doing shtick. The Vegas strip isn't my kind of place, but of course there was no thought given to pleasing me when it was built and that's exactly the way it should be. ;D
Actually, I made that bit about drive-thru weddings up mostly because I was hungry at the time and drive thrus are the first (and usually only) thing I think of. But it turns out drive thru wedding chapels really do exist:
http://www.chapelsoflasvegas.com/drivethruweddings.htm
Don't know about the Elvis angle, though.
-
Yup they do exist! I think they even have one in Reno too ;D
And, everyone is entitled to their opinions. I don't dislike someone who doesn't share mine. In fact, I think it's great that people care enough to have their own 8)
-
So the release date in June 24th???? Why is everything music/movies/dvd released on a Tuesday here in the USA???
-
I know what an odd day to release stuff. Should be like Friday or something.
-
I agree.............or on Sunday when all the week's adds break in the papers.........
-

Never been to Vegas, afraid of what will happen to me if I go there. I'm strong, and I can resist anything, except temptation usually does me in (apologies to Groucho).
But back to torching Vegas ... it's a tough issue in my mind. It grew up around a spring or creek or something, and was a thriving town/city long before it became a playground. When I think hard about whether the playsters have the right to use those resources, it turns into one of those thin-edge-of-the-wedge kind of things that seem to be one of my failings. OK, let's say it's wrong for the hotels to be there. How about the hotels in Florida, messing up the Everglades and all? Or pretty much all of Manhattan, built on a small island with a fragile ecosystem? Who gets to decide whether the stimulus for development (and its inevitable resource destruction) is bad (gambling, organized crime, Celine Dion, etc.), or OK? The answer to me is obvious (I should be the one!), but I suppose others may disagree for one reason or another.
It's kind of like my mom's condo area in Rockland Co., NY, about 20 miles north of NYC. When she bought it 20 years ago, there were about 50 units stuck in the middle of what seemed like the primeval forest that went on forever. Now, you can't see a single tree for all the newer condo units that have been built around hers. She has complained about how wrong it was to build up the new units, nature is being destroyed and all. But implicit in all that of course is that it was OK to build her unit ...
I don't know, it's hard for me to figure these things out. Maybe the best thing is to just be smart about the choices we have yet to make. That's hard enough for me!!
Does anyone out there have a good way to figure these sort of things out? Maybe we need a resident board ethicist :)
-
In all honesty, I could care less about going to Vegas. I don't gamble, the shows are expensive, the "good" lodging is expensive...........and they charge you 8 bucks for a cup of coffee room service!!!! I'm not kidding. The little widow woman who lives across the street from me went to Vegas earlier this year on a "free comp" with her sister and husband and she said she'll NEVER go back again. She said Tunica, Mississippi.......here in the states, about 3 hours from me......has better gaming tables and hotels.
So...........I'd much rather see "Love" on dvd than a live show..........
-
I don't even want to go into how much money I spent in Vegas... Not including what I gambled away... :D
But I would do it again in a second 8)
-
How about the hotels in Florida, messing up the Everglades and all?
Good questions, Alexis, and ought to be asked by every sensible person. It all comes down to responsible use of the Commons-- those resources we share on Mother Earth. If we do it wrong, we die-- just like the Easter Islanders, the Anasazi, the Maya of Central America and the Greenland Norse. If we're smart, like the Tikopians, New Guineans, and Japanese, we live. (Although Japan cheats in its abuse of fishing commons, it does a great job of managing its island resources.)
People all over America are smart and stupid in how they manage their resources. Out West, I have to say we are largely stupid. Florida has pools of intelligence mixed with sweeping blights of stupidity. Look at where people choose to build their homes. You can't even get insurance in most places because these trophy homes on the beach cost so much to rebuild when the hurricanes come most people can't afford to insure their sensible homes, not being the millionaires who are once again making life miserable for the "have nots". On the other hand, when Florida realized the Everglades were vital to the entire operation of the state's ecosystem, they took steps to protect it.
Everything is a balance. People use resources and will keep on doing so. Rather than kill all humans, or use up all resources, I would like to strike a happy balance. We have historical examples in front of us. We have to have the will to follow them.
-
Well............still off the subject a bit...........I want a lottery in Arkansas sooooo bad!!!! It's gonna be on the November voting ticket. But see, I'm in what they call the "Bible Belt" and you got all these Baptists, (sorry if any of you are that), who are totally against gambling and lotteries. But hey.........then they pack up and go to Tunica and gamble where no one will see them.............And drink a beer in back of their house where no one can see.........not like me, a Catholic, who doesn't really give a s&*t what people think...........
-
Hey I heard that in the bible belt alot of the states don't sell alcohol on Sundays!!!! Is this true??!?!?!?!?!? No Alcohol, no gambling... what would my life be!!! :P ;)
-
Hey I heard that in the bible belt alot of the states don't sell alcohol on Sundays!!!! Is this true??!?!?!?!?!? No Alcohol, no gambling... what would my life be!!! :P ;)
It's not just the bible belt! Out on Long Island you can't buy it on Sunday and you can only get alcohol in a liquor store. I remember the last time I was there we were running around Saturday night before the liquor stores closed so we could have wine with dinner! It was so funny because now I'm used to California where you can go into Ralphs (grocery store) at all hours of the day or night and get whatever you want! It was like going back in time. I love it back there though. Different feel to it because of things like that.

My great aunt used to have a house in Mattituck way at the end of the island. Are you out that way? I grew up in Westchester, but live far away now. You can buy likker here on Sunday's, but you have to be wearing your gun on the outside.
-
Yes! I was in NJ last summer visiting family and I went into a grocery store to buy some beer...walked up and down every dang isle... finally realized that you cannot but alcohol in there!! WTH!!!! Had to go to a liquor store... Strange!! I think they did sell alcohol on Sunday though (I could be wrong).
I know what you mean though, it has a different feel, and I like it.
-
SORRY! OFF TOPIC ALERT!

I grew up in Lake Ronkonkoma. Right in the middle! (Still Suffolk County) We used to go out to Montauk Point all the time though. Which is way at one of the ends. I love how everything back there is either named after Native American tribes (like all my old schools) or things like: Hicksville or Amityville or Old Beth Page. Our Lake even has a scary legend to go with it! It's got character that place. I miss it!

Now back to our regular scheduled programming...

Cool, east coast girls 8)

Apparently, the DVD has been delayed. You just knew it would happen.
-
But of course!
-
Apparently, the DVD has been delayed. You just knew it would happen.
^^^^^^The DVD has been delayed????? What happened ol' great BlueMeanie??? I was counting the days down to next Tuesday. Shed some light, dude.............
-
Delayed until fall, apparently:

And by a weird coincidence:
Documentary Chronicling Cirque du Soliel's Beatles Show
-
^^^^^^Oh well, I guess I have to wait till Fall. Man, that makes me mad. I was looking forward to something new from "the Boys" this summer............
-
Hey I heard that in the bible belt alot of the states don't sell alcohol on Sundays!!!! Is this true??!?!?!?!?!? No Alcohol, no gambling... what would my life be!!! :P ;)
^^^^^^OFF SUBJECT ALERT AGAIN.............Yes, it's true. Here in Arkansas NO LIQUOR SALES on Sunday...........ever!!!! And we just recently got passed here several years ago so the restaurants can sell liquor on Sunday. And.........to make it even "crazier" down here, some counties are "dry"...........no liquor stores or selling anything related. So I live in Pulaski county, and it's "wet", but drive up the interstate a few miles to Faulkner county and it's "dry as a bone". Crazy crap down here in the "Bible Belt"...And the only "gaming" we have here in Arkansas are the horse races in the spring. And we finally got bingo back.
.................Now............back to the main subject of this thread...............
-
That's too bad about the delay of the DVD but I guess it is not a real big surprise...
Off subject again...sorry!
But that is so weird to me about not being able to by alcohol on certain days! I heard somewhere in Texas they wouldnt even sell laundry detergent on Sundays because it is suppossed to be a day of rest.....
-
^^^^^^^Off SUBJECT again.............."Southern Bible Belt BS" is all it is. I'm Catholic and we don't give a s*&t about that stuff. But yet..........I am a minority here down South with all the Baptist.
^^^^^^^^^^^^^On subject again...........I heard they had some little "problems" with the film to be put on DVD...........just a "hear say"............
-
I am Catholic also.
BTW, I do hope the hurry up and release the DVD. I am waiting to see how it compares to the show (of course it won't be better but I do want to compare the two and see if the DVD does the show any justice).
-
^^^^^^^I'm gonna buy the DVD ASAP when it comes out. I don't think my family will afford a trip to Vegas right now with the health condition my dad is in. (Major bad heart/Parkinson's). Besides............with the stereo system me and my hubby, Jeff, has put together ANYTHING will sound good on it. I just can't wait until the DVD is released......please hurry people at Apple "after my beloved Neil Aspinall"................ :( :( :(

I can just imagine how well that actually works in practice. Baptists must be the Fords of Christianity.

Hey is that Al Bundy's car?
-
^^^^^^^^HeatherBoo.............TOO FUNNY!!!!! Al Bundy's car..............LOL!!!!! I was a "little" Kelly Bundy back in my hey-day.................. :( :( :( :'(
-
Hey is that Al Bundy's car?
Nope: Al Bundy's car was a Dodge- this one, to be precise:

All you ever wanted to know (and probably more) here:

-
Oooooohhhhh.............Geoff.......you're TOO GOOD!!!! Maybe I'll post a pix of me in my "Kelly Bundy" days.....
-
Ah yes, Kelly: well, it wasn't Al's 1974 Dodge Dart (or whatever it actually was) that kept the show on the air: ;D

I remember in the 70's there were actually strict laws on what you were not allowed to sell on a Sunday in England. One of them was that you couldn't sell books. Not even a bible! Of course in practice it never worked, which was good news because one of the other things you couldn't sell was toilet rolls!
-
Apparently, the DVD has been delayed. You just knew it would happen.
is this gonna turn into a waiting Let It Be dvd release? :P
-
^^^^^^You know there's always "hold ups" when it comes to releasing something of the Beatles. When Neil was alive and running Apple, he was really good at doing that. All the legal BS, I guess..............
-
LOL@Al Bundy's car and Kelly Bundy ;D
To keep on topic...
I can't wait for the dvd!
-
I can't either, HeatherBoo............but man, oh, man.........I NEED to post my picture of "me" Kelly Bundy style from the '80's............that's off the subject again...........sorry..........
-
Has anyone heard any more about when the Cirque du Soleil "Love" DVD will be released???
-
^^^ Not a word: The Beatles' site still gives the date as "Fall 2008" and there's no sign of it on Amazon.com.
http://beatles.fanfire.com/cgi-bin/WebObjects/fanfire.woa/wa/product?sourceCode=BEAWEB&sku=BEA43388
-
Thanks Geoff!!!! If Amazon doesn't have it listed, then "who knows" when it will be......
-
Odd title - All Together Now - seeing as that song doesn't even feature.
-
^^^^I know............strange. But you know the Beatles' "powers that be"..... :-/
-
^^^ The title might still be provisional: there's no cover artwork on The Beatles' site. As for a release date, since 1 was released on 13 November, and Love was released on 20 November, it might be reasonable to infer a similar date for All Together Now. :)
-
Ummmmm............never thought of that, Geoff. Something to think about...............
-
All Together Now due to be released 21 October:

Ah, Geoff................you're "the man"!!!! I was just going to ask if anyone heard anything about "Love". I'll mark my calendar.............thank you for the news!!!!
Cheers: apparently Apple is going to market it exclusively through the Best Buy chain in the US:
HOLLYWOOD, Calif., Sept. 17 /PRNewswire/ -- EMI Music has confirmed an
October 21 DVD release of the feature-length documentary 'All Together Now.'
The DVD will be available in US stores exclusively at Best Buy and at The LOVE
Boutique at the Mirage in Las Vegas.
http://www.earthtimes.org/articles/show/emi-music-announces-october-21,544863.shtml
-
I've got a Best Buy credit card...............woooo-whooooo..............
-
So, it's official? Not that I am THAT interested in the dvd. Apple should release some far more interesting stuff instead. But that's another topic I guess. :)
-
Not that interested myself. Seen the documentary on the TV, and that's enough. I've only even played the album twice!
-
Apparently it is not for sale outside the US anyway. Or we all have to order a copy at Aspie! ;D
-
I've only even played the album twice!
Me, too: it's not a bad medley once you get past the Vegas-ish opening sequence, bit it doesn't really add anything to the catalog, either, and I'm not even clear on just who Cirque de Soleil are: I suppose a rough translation of the name would be "Circus Of The Sun," and I have a vague impression of acrobats, but beyond that I'm lost.
(beammeup)
-
Well you guys, I'm still going to buy it and I LOVE the cd, "Love". To me, this is what the Beatles would sound like "21st century". And I just got an email from Apple Corp/The Beatles' official website announcing the release of "All Together Now"..........
-
I'm sure watching the DVD is NOTHING like seeing it live. Which was an awesome experience. Same with the CD. I liked it a bit better after seeing the show. But this is just a documentary right? Not the entire show.
That's weird that it's not being sold outside the US. I mean, can't you just have them send it anywhere? Hell, I'd send you a copy Cor. I owe you one anyway!
-
That's weird that it's not being sold outside the US.
I'm sure it is: Apple did a deal with Best Buy to distribute it in the US, but I presume it's being sold through the usual retailers in the rest of the world. This is from Amazon's UK affiliate, for example:
http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B0017VLEX8/ref=s9subs_c3_74_img1-rfc_p-frt_g1-3215_p-3102_g2?pf_rd_m=A3P5ROKL5A1OLE&pf_rd_s=center-1&pf_rd_r=07ZER7QCXYHYGCQWNPAY&pf_rd_t=101&pf_rd_p=218348891&pf_rd_i=468294

:K)
-
Put your orders in and send me some money and I'll send you all a copy............ ;D ;D ;D
-
I am just going to get because I have seen the show and want to compare the DVD to the show, see if the DVD does it any justice. I thought the show was really good. I had a blast. Bit pricey though, but that is Vegas. I thought it was worth it.
-
not being sold outside of the US, eh? Jude (otherwise know as Vic) lives in Canada, to be exact, a couple of hours from the boarder. Jude is going shopping in the US in a little over a week. Jude + shopping State-side = LOVE DVD for her :) QED lol! (math joke there)
-
^^^^^^Hey Heather...........I think it's just the "docu" of the show and NOT the actual show. This is what I'm understanding. And besides.........the DVD is in honor of my beloved late Neil Aspinall.......I HAVE to HAVE it for that reason.
-
heck, I'm still gonna buy it even if it's a documentary!!!!! Gotta get the Beatles fix any way you cut it LOL
-
Oh ok, well yea I will still buy it. Maybe I will get a more behind the scenes information to add to what I experienced at the show.
-
^^^^^^You're so lucky to have gone to the show girlfriend!!! I wish we could have gone to the show. But I'm hoping "maybe" the show will be released on DVD. Probably will, since Neil's not around to "protect the Beatles' name and image"..........sad............
-
Yea, I figured I was in Vegas so I HAD to see it. I would not have gone to Vegas just to see the show though.
-
Tomorrow, Best Buy around the USA will have for sale, "All Together Now".......the making of the Cirque du Soleil Beatles Vegas show, "LOVE".................I'm buying it first thing tomorrow morning.........anyone else???
-
did you see anything about Best Buy in Canada???
-
All the newspaper said yesterday was a "Best Buy Exclusive"............so check up there in Canada and see what goes....
-
Thanks Aspie :)
-
I will buy it when I get paid next week
-
Just ordered my copy! :)
-
I just ordered it too.. yay! \o/
-
Just came in from Best Buy with my copy of "All Together Now". Will watch tonight and let y'all know what I think. And it's so sad/sweet the film is dedicated to the loving memory of Neil Aspinall. I just want to cry over that one............
-
Watched the DVD last night. Very good in my opinion. Quite a bit of interviews with my beloved Neil Aspinall. He looked so frail. I guess he was very sick then and we didn't even know about it. Sad....
But all in all, the DVD was a good watch.
-
Good to know, thanks! I hope to pick it up this weekend, if not for sure next weekend.
-
It's definitely worth your money. Just to see Sir Martin and Neil and Paul and Ringo and other "survivors" talk, it's very amazing. But God bless Neil's soul. He will be missed, especially by me............ :'( :'( :'( :'(
-
lovely to see the film dedicated to Neil Aspinall, bless him! :)makes me emotional just
looking at him being interviewed!
-

^^^^^^^^I know what you mean Andy. I just about cried while watching the DVD. Neil will be missed. He was "the" great supporter of the Beatles' memory.......

^How come you're so in love with Neil?

I think my mom got me it for Christmas!!! She found it at a store the other day and called me at school and asked me if I had it. I wouldn't be suprised if she got it :) I'm excited now that I've heard so much good buzz about it on this thread!

Does anyone "know anyone" that went to the show in vegas and maybe took in a video camera, and is selling the dvds? :)

Negatory there. At most shows like that they don't even allow cameras inside. I remember going to see the New York Philharmonic and you had to check your camera at the door before they'd even let you go to your seat!

Actually they didn't check me at all when I went.
