Post A Beatle Album, Can Include Singles
« on: September 28, 2014, 01:55:16 PM »

Mr Mustard had a good idea with a 1963 album, anyone want to post a single album made up from each year with singles allowable? I'm also sorry if this has been done before! Here's mine for 64:

1. I Feel Fine
2. Can't Buy Me Love
3. Eight Days a Week
4. And I Love Her
5. No Reply
6. Baby's In Black
7. A Hard Day's Night

8. I'm A Loser
9. Long Tall Sally
10. Things We Said Today
11. I'm Happy Just To Dance With You
12. Any Time At All
13. You Can't Do That
14. I'll Be Back

Thanks for the kind words BLEEN, I was hoping to launch one for 1964 sooner or later so I'm delighted you've done so... I hope plenty now join in with the spirit of this! It's quite fun wrestling with the imaginary sequencing and seeing what others include and omit.

SIDE ONE
1.   Can't Buy Me Love
2.   I'll Be Back
3.   Eight Days A Week
4.   If I Fell
5.   What You're Doing
6.   I Should Have Known Better
7.   A Hard Day's Night

SIDE TWO
8.   I Feel Fine
9.   And I Love Her
10. Every Little Thing
11. I'm Happy Just To Dance With You
12. No Reply
13. Things We Said Today
14. Any Time At All

Try as I might there was just no room for Ringo this time. I would have loved to have included "Leave My Kitten Alone" or at least one track from the "Long Tall Sally" EP but again, no space! I think I probably found this one even harder to put together than '63.

Great track list Mr Mustard! I had a much harder time with 64 as well, their songwriting abilities just exploded around this time. I noticed we have close to the same tunes, I was actually going to put If I Fell and I Should Have Known Better on there, so wow it looks like we have extremely similar songs we like ;D

I'm glad you didn't mind that I started this thread, was kind of hoping it would encourage track lists since it isn't limited to just a specific year.

5. Yesterday
6. Norwegian Wood
7. Drive My Car

8. Day Tripper

11. Girl
12. Ticket To Ride

Ok. I'll have a go at 64

A Hard Days Night
I Should Have Known Better
If I Fell
Baby's in Black
I'm a Loser
I Feel Fine
No Reply

Can't Buy Me Love
I'll Follow the Sun
Every Little Thing
Things We Said Today
You Can't do That
I'll Be Back
Eight Days a Week

That was tough

I really wanted to get a George one in. I considered Everybody's Trying to Be My Baby. Not because it was the greatest song but George and the lads did it in one take. Showed George's confidence growing.

But in the end it couldn't topple any of the classics I've listed.

1964.

Side One.
1. A Hard Day's Night
2. Baby's In Black
3. Every Little Thing
4. I Call Your Name
5. She's A Woman
6. I Feel Fine
7. Can't Buy Me Love

Side Two.
1. Slow Down
2. Any Time At All
3. I'll Cry Instead
4. Things We Said Today
5. When I Get Home
6. You Can't Do That
7. I'll Be Back

I didn't want to split up the almost perfect side two of 'A Hard Day's Night'......so I didn't!

Nice one, oldbrownshoe! That is a strong album, I think I'd buy it ;D

I noticed Every Little Thing gets a lot of love on this forum, and deservedly so - it's a real good one. The only problem I have with it is the fact that J & P sing the verses together. Usually, it sounds amazing when they do that, but in my extremely humble opinion it would have sounded much better if either of them had done it double tracked, but to each his own.

Anyway, I'll have a whack at 66:

1. Paperback Writer
2. Rain
3. Eleanor Rigby
4. Taxman
5. And Your Bird Can Sing
6. For No One
7. I'm Only Sleeping
8. I Want To Tell You
9. She Said She Said
10. Here, There And Everywhere
11. Dr. Robert
12. Yellow Submarine
13. Got To Get You Into My Life
14. Tomorrow Never Knows

1965:

SIDE ONE:
1.   Help!
2.   If I Needed Someone
3.   Another Girl
4.   Norwegian Wood (This Bird Has Flown)
5.   The Night Before
6.   Girl
7.   Nowhere Man

SIDE TWO:
8.   Ticket To Ride
9.   Michelle
10. You've Got To Hide Your Love Away
11. Think For Yourself
12. You're Going To Lose That Girl
13. We Can Work It Out
14. In My Life

Yes, I know, I know.... no room for "Yesterday", but it really will always be the single most overrated track from their entire catalogue in my opinion. In fact I couldn't find room for anything from side two of "Help!", partly because it's so weak, but also because side one is so strong (as is most of "Rubber Soul").

My first year without a single B Side.

Sorry Ringo but in the competition for what goes on, there's just no room for "What Goes On".....

(or "Act Naturally")  :(

I think I'm with you on 'Yesterday', Mr. Mustard, I always preferred the song that preceded it, 'I've Just Seen A Face'.
That said, like 'Yellow Submarine', 'When I'm 64' and 'Octopus's Garden' it probably went a long way in attracting new admirers.

Same here; "I've Just Seen A Face" is probably my favourite track from side two of "Help!", it just missed out on making my final 14.

I wouldn't go so far as to say I dislike it stevie, but I didn't forget about it. I've just never been all that keen on it and it's certainly not as good as "We Can Work It Out" in my opinion.

I love Yesterday. I think it's a gorgeous melody with simple but poignant lyrics. It's unfortunately become hackneyed with overuse. But I'll defend it's  basic merits anytime.
