Your favourite "eff you" love songs
« on: November 02, 2009, 03:24:00 PM »

Sometimes, when you're mad at someone, instead of listening to mopey "why-don't-you-love-me" songs, it is better to listen to songs about how crappy that person actually is. I love a good angry, bitter "f--k you" song. Here are a few of mine:

Anyone Who Had a Heart- Dionne WarwickThis is one of those songs that is about heartbreak but also delivers a few pretty good take thats. "You couldn't really have a heart, to hurt me and be so untrue. Anyone who had a heart would love me too. Why won't you?"

You Don't Know What Love Is (You Just Do As You're Told)- the White Stripes There's just something about f--k you sentiments and power chords that go together really well.

Vicious-Lou Reed Not only is this song pretty darn scathing but is also catchy as hell.

Untouchable Face- Ani Difranco A f--k you song where she actually says that. or, to be more specific: "F--k you and your untouchable face/f--k you for existing in the first place". The way it's delievered (softly sung with an acoustic guitar) makes the lyrics all the more bitter.

Who'll Be The Next In Line- The Kinks  I like this song because not only does it attack the actions of the person to which it's directed, it also attacks her entire character.

You're No Good- Linda Ronstadt The title says it all.

Believe- Cher Laugh if you want but I think this is a pretty good song for when you're mad at someone. I love the bit where she sings "I don't need you anymore, no I don't need you anymore!" it's actually rather powerful.

Don't Think Twice, It's All Right- Bob Dylan The way Dylan casually decontructs the relationship and tears down everything the woman meant to him is amazing. It's like you think someone lightly slapped you but then you look in the mirror a few hours later and there's a huge purple bruise on your face.

Silver Springs- Fleetwood Mac One of the most beautiful f--k you songs ever written.

Unhappy Birthday- the Smiths You'd be hard pressed to find a Smiths song that isn't a f--k you or an "I'm so lonely song" but this one in particular stands out to me because of these lyrics: "I've come to wish you an unhappy birthday/'Cause you're evil/And you lie/And if you should die/I may feel slightly sad/(But I won't cry)."

And last but not least, the best f--k you song of all time (in my opinion):

You're So Vain by Carly Simon!!!!

What are your personal favourites? Do you have any albums or songs that you like to listen to when you're p*ssed off at someone?

I always liked the irony of The Pretenders covering Ray Davies's Stop Your Sobbing after Chrissie Hynde had dumped him.

Another good one, Fergal Sharkey's first two solo singles: A Good Heart written by Maria McKee about her relationship with Benmont Tench, and You Little Thief written as a retort by Tench.

Slapshot - I Want You Dead

Believe me, the songs you all listed are cheerful ditties compared to this one.  ;D

I love the way Linda Ronstadt sings that song.  Betty Everett's version was equally scathing ten years before.....

Ben Folds Five Song For The Dumped

So you wanted
to take a break
Slow it down some and
have some space
Well f*** you too
Give me my money back
Give me my money back
you b****
I want my money back
(And don't forget to give
me back my black T-Shirt)
Wish I hadn't bought you dinner
Right before you dumped me
on your front porch
Give me my money back
Give me my money back
You b****
I want my money back
and don't forget
And don't forget.

It's not technically about a scorned love, but Martha Wainwright's "loving ode" to her father certainly strikes a chord:

Bloody Mother f***ing a**hole - Martha Wainwright

Does I'm Looking Through You count?

If only for:
You're thinking of me
The same old way
You were above me
But not today
The only difference
Is you're down there
I'm looking though you
And you're nowhere

And if John was right about Get Back...

Didn't someone say Jo Jo was a composite of John and Yoko? Or just plain Yoko? John himself might have claimed that. If it's actually true, that's pretty damn funny and quite the FU. "Get back Jo Jo! Go home!" Go Paul!

There is one story that Paul was looking at Yoko the whole time the group was recording Get Back.

Paul and his passive/aggressive side. He was never as innocent as he looked. Ha.

This is one story I would love to be true.

This one I had to post just cuz John's stance. Always funny from the front, but from behind is just hysterical!
