George Harrison to recieve a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame
George Harrison will be honoured with his own star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame (Hollywood & Vine-next to John's in front of Capitol Records) on Tuesday,April 14th 2009. The ceremony will start at 11:30am-Pacific time.

Hi guys, I decided to drive out to see George get his star in Hollywood today. It was a fantastic day. Very crowded but pleasant and sunny.
Today's guests included Tom Hanks, Tom Petty, Eric Idle, Jeff Lynne (I think?), Olivia and Dhani Harrison, and a surprise guest was Paul McCartney. I had no clue he would be there and I totally died (see my mailbox note, it's pathetic).
Eric, Olivia, and some others gave speeches for today's event. I think Dhani only said "Hare Krishna" to the crowd and Paul did not give a speech. However, Eric said that Paul was a really, really great friend to George as he was dying, and I believe he said that George actually died in Paul's house. ??? Wow. ??)
Since it was so crowded, I couldn't get many good pics. (I was stuck at the back near the press entrance.) I'll see what I can upload, but it's not much. George's new star looks great, BTW, and I got to visit John's star too.
I just had to share this with you all. I wasn't even sure if I was going to go today since I'm terrible with driving directions, but I am SOOO glad I went! (grin) (grin) (grin)

Look to the right of the security guy's head (the blond guy with sunglasses in the center). Olivia Harrison is far away but she is two heads to the right of him (dark hair, dark suit). Hard to see in the pic but she looked lovely.

I am sorry to say I have NO pics of Paul. I have a video of him--he pops in really quickly and is fuzzy in the background, but you can hearing me gasping in shock. I have no clue how to upload vids but it's kind of embarrassing anyway because my dorky moment is forever preserved on video.

Andy and Mrs. Lennon, thanks! I am so seriously overwhelmed right now. I just went today because I wanted to see George's star and support Olivia and Dhani. I honestly didn't know who else was coming. Seeing Paul come out was a massive shock for me and I'm still SO freaked out right now. He was beautiful!! OMG. ??)
Also, I talked to a camera/video producer person and she said Paul's guest appearance today was supposed to be a secret. Even she did not know that he would be present. After the ceremony, I went to the parking lot of Capitol Records to talk to more fans. One lady said I just missed Paul's and Tom Petty's exit. But she said Paul looked very handsome to her, more handsome in real life than in photos, and that he drove away in a purple convertible Corvette(?). ;D
But I am glad I got to share my photos and experience with you guys! I don't have many Beatlemaniac friends so this is a real pleasure for me. :) I've had better luck uploading pics here than FB, which is being crazy and stubborn right now!
Mrs. Lennon, BTW, I left a gift for you in your mailbox. ;)

When Paul revealed it I started crying a little bit, not sure why. *Embarassed & Confused* :)
When I was watching it I and Tom Hanks came on I was like what the heck! But I loved loved LOVED what he said....it was beautiful.
I would have wish that Olivia or Dhani would have revealed the star, but Paul was probably asked because of his star status. But I loved how when the Interview got up in his face he kept it short and sweet, he probably wanted the attention to stay where it mattered :)
Seemed like a wonderful ceremony nonetheless...well deserved.

I like how Olivia and Dhani had to touch the star as soon as it was unveiled-- it looked ritualistic, touching their foreheads (I think) and then touching the star. I wouldn't be surprised if they had all worked this out in advance-- Paul would remove the cover, so Olivia and Dhani could pay their respects immediately and as one. Yes, DSL, Paul was gracious in keeping his remarks short.
Lovely ceremony. I loved seeing the people (friends) who turned out to honor George.

I wonder if Paul was asked to reveal the star partly because he'd known George the longest out of everyone. After all, he was the one who introduced George to John and got him into the Beatles. :)

Olivia was George's wife. And Dhani is his own flesh and blood.

I'm sure Paul's celebrity status did play a part, but it's not the only thing. If they simply wanted a famous person, they could've asked Eric Idle or Tom Petty or whomever to reveal the star, but they didn't. Olivia and Dhani were obviously very important people in George's life, but they weren't there to witness George's formative years as an artist. As a Beatle, Paul was very much a part of George's personal and professional life. I don't think not having Liv or Dhani reveal the star was intended as a slight, but in respect to George's musical history, it just made more sense to have Paul reveal the star.
Sorry if I'm beating a dead horse here...this topic got stuck in my head and I'd rather discuss this instead of doing the dishes in the kitchen. :P

No not at all, I enjoy hearing people's opinions. :)
I can see where you're coming from. Paul wouldhave been thebestto reveal it, even over Tom or Eric because George was best known for beingin The Beatles. But I don't really think it matters who reveals the star, as long as he has one, it is something more to remember him by.

I find it interesting, after all this speculation, that the clip clearly shows that Paul was not one of those to reveal the star. It was Dhani and the guy to Olivia's right- help? Anyway, very cool to see.

Whoa! The day I was there, I was too far to see who was actually revealing the star. I did think it was Paul but I guess it wasn't, then?? Sorry for all the points I made earlier, though. :D :X

I don't think there's any need to apologize. The only shot I saw of this previously was a tight shot, where you can't see who's actually pulling. As the clip shows, Paul was crouching (standing) over the shoulder of the guy actually pulling, so you could have thought it was him from a distance-- but it wasn't. The guy to Olivia's right I'm guessing might be someone on the awards committee, as he presents the plaque immediately afterward?
Anyway, interesting to see how all the speculation went. :)
ADDED: Just viewed it again, and it's clearly the MC guy. He appears to be helping Olivia pull the string, so it was actually her and Dhani who revealed the star, and the MC helped get the cover out of the way and hand it off to the helper bee.
