'Frank' (2014)

A quirky tale, loosely inspired by Chris Sievey's Frank Sidebottom character, very funny at times, but with it's tragic moments too. Worth a look if you're interested in something different.

The Railroad Man - A great (but difficult) movie about a British soldier taken prisoner and sent to work on the Burma railway where he is beaten and tortured by the Japanese. Ultimately, he goes back to face his captor and free his demons. The story ends in forgiveness!

Wasn't that a true story Dave?  Guess I could look it up.

Yes, The British soldier was a Lt. Lomax. He forgave his Japanese torturer/ interrogator and they became great friends till they died in 2011 and 20012. Great story

Annabelle. It was actually pretty good, and the infant who played the part of the baby daughter was SO adorable!   :)

Not a film exactly but, to absolutely no fanfare (zip, zilch, nought), the first 'Avengers' series with Diana Rigg as Emma Peel (1965) has dribbled out on a satellite channel called 'True Entertainment'. It is (still) brilliant.

Seeing that 'Avengers' episodes on British TV in the 21st Century are as rare as hen's teeth, shouldn't this be the sort of thing that the 'Radio Times'' champions from the rooftops?

I bet it would get a considerable bigger audience in the UK than 'Mad Men'.
Bizarre.

I had to get all the Rigg seasons on disk, as no one seemed to be playing them anymore.

I want candy.

Reservoir Dogs (1992) - Violent
Hue And Cry (1947) - Dated
The Ipcress File (1965) - Dull
The League Of Gentlemen (1960) - Entertaining
Viva Las Vegas (1964) - Corny

Some that I have watched this year also.

Left Behind - Was hoping for so much more.  Nicholas Cage phoned this one in as usual.  Felt like an after school special instead of a movie.  Very disappointed.

Heaven Is For Real - I liked it, but the book is so much better.

The Lego Movie - Time I can never recover in my life.

47 Ronin - Dumber then I could ever imagine.  I wanted a little bit of realism and got a Dragonball Z movie.

Hasent been a good start to the year for me.

Hoping for too much from a Nicolas Cage movie is always fraught.

It made no sense to turn what should have been a historical drama into a fantasy movie.

Films seen this year:

'Les Bicyclettes de Belsize' (1969), 'The London Nobody Knows' (1967), and the best film a pop singer's ever starred in a.k.a. 'Performance'.

This is true, but it wasn't just his fault.  The entire movie was flawed.  Once again as the old saying goes, the book was much better.

Good to hear. I've been meaning to watch that, but the book was so good that I was afraid the movie would
be super-disappointing. Nice to know it wasn't bad.

It was good. It's a case of faith meets fantasy so I wouldn't take it too seriously but the acting and some portrayals were good.

'Birdman'

Clever script, brilliant acting. Keeps you on the edge throughout. Earned its award nominations.
