« on: January 12, 2005, 03:40:10 AM »

Roger Waters to Perform at Tsunami Aid

Roger Waters is set to perform at an NBC televised charity event to raise funds for the American Red Cross International Response Fund, which is involved in offering funds and support towards the recent tsunami tragedy.

Other scheduled performers include Madonna, Sheryl Crow, Diana Ross, Stevie Wonder, Maroon 5, Norah Jones, Sarah McLachlan, Mary J. Blige, Lenny Kravitz, John Mayer, Kenny Chesney, India Arie, Tom Jones, Eric Clapton, Brian Wilson and Gloria Estefan.

Celebrities scheduled to appear include Halle Berry, Kevin Spacey, Usher, George Clooney, Uma Thurman, Matt Damon, Catherine Zeta-Jones, Michael Douglas, Bruce Willis, Danny DeVito and Rhea Pearlman, Tim Robbins, Eric McCormack and Sean Hayes.

Tsunami Aid: A Concert of Hope will air starting at 8 p.m. PT on Jan. 15th on NBC, its sister cable networks and on Pax and Telemundo. Viewers will be encouraged to donate to the American Red Cross International Response Fund in support of tsunami relief through its web site and donation hotline.

Funds raised through this special will support the American Red Cross two-phased assistance plan, which includes immediate and long-term relief.

Thanks/Source: Roger Waters Online

Basically, it's a pretty crummy line up. Except for like three of them.  Clapton seems to perform at all these things.

Why wouldn't he? Eh, maybe he wouldn't then. I don't know. I don't know what Rogers gonna do, but I hope it's some Floyd stuff. Maybe something from the Wall since it's going to be on Broadway soon.

Paul took time out to go on Who Wants To Be A Millionaire, so I dont know why he wouldnt have the time to do a Tsunami concert.

I'm looking forward to seeing Roger Waters, Eric Clapton & Brian Wilson at the Tsunami aid benefit.  Having Madonna there is a waste of time since you have to be an idiot if you take her seriously as an an artist.

Can't somebody just ask Bob Geldof to do a Live Aid II? That'd be great...

I watched it. ^^; Not so bad.

Madonna's version of Imagine is crap. She NEEDS to stop. Covering. It. x-x It made me weep. =( The music for it was cool, but her singing was awful. She's gotta learn that you can't really beat John Lennon at his own game.

Heh, he, along with Bono, were both asked that in recent interviews.....it really doesn't raise enough money to do too much to be honest......the big thing right now is:

http://www.makepovertyhistory.org/home.html

Where they're trying to cancel trade debts among nations. That will accomplish much more than one concert could do.

I HATE Madonna!!!!!! I'm glad someone did the song though. But WHY HER!!!??? Plus what was with the sythesizer crap? Yuck. She was terribly off key. As was Brian Wilson. Someone needs to tell him. Oh, and Diana Ross too! I was cringing!!!! Now Waters was never much of a singer, but he did Wish You Were Here very well. Nothing compared to Dave but it was very cool. Wonder why Clapton didn't do some singing. All in all, the show reminded me how crappy the music scene is these days.

I understand, but it was about the Tsunami victims this time, not about Africa.

He was? Which songs did he do?

I hate to say it, but Brian Wilson is kind of embarrassing today... He can't sing anymore (and he used to have an absolutely perfect pitch) and he hasn't written a decent song in years...
