Lovely Guitar World interview from 1992
« on: January 09, 2008, 05:33:27 PM »

I really enjoyed this interview from 1992, finally published in 2000 after being (literally) lost in a earthquake. It's a lovely profile of a relaxed, thoughtful, rancor-free George, looking back over his musical influences, career, and relationships (past and present) with the other Beatles. Definitely worth a read. Cheers!

Its interesting how George says he doesn't like his early singing on the first take acoustic version of While My Guitar Gently Weeps. Is this the same take on Anthology 3, and the Love album with GM's strings, I wonder?

I know! Isn't this astonishing?  :o But it has to be the same take. "Toilet singing" indeed!

I think it just goes to show we can't be objective about ourselves. My personal theory is John and Paul and George M were at pains to tell George how limited his singing was, and he started to believe it. It takes a lot of confidence to put out anything creatively; the more confident you are, the better the work often is. Objectively I don't think he improved over time as much as recovered his confidence. When I hear him singing on the early BBC Live stuff, he's as confident as any of them.

Ive always liked different voices and although i love a great voice , im just as happy listening to Lou Reed .
It's what George sang about i listen to not the timber of his voice which i think is ok  and i think your spot on harihead about confidance :)

Love it! Thanks for posting  :)

What I found interesting was this little quote.

Quote
To get it straight, if I hadn't been with John and Paul I probably wouldn't have thought about writing a song, at least not until much later. They were writing all these songs, many of which I thought were great. Some were just average, but, obviously, a high percentage were quality material. I thought to myself, If they can do it, I'm going to have a go.
