Paul's vests
« on: November 09, 2010, 12:53:52 AM »

Paul often wore some very nice knitted vests during the 60's and 70's. Im trying to look up some on eBay, but does anyone have a nice search string? I've tried "knitted vest", "vintage vest", "retro knit vest" and a couple of others but can't find what i am looking for. Anyone?

Sebastian, try searching for Faire Isle Vest.  That's the style vest Paul wore in Magical Mystery Tour.

Last year I found this one...

The one Paul wore was apparently hand-made.  A Beatles fan posted knitting instructions for an exact replica here:  http://community.livejournal.com/mybelle_knits/3877.html#cutid1

Who here knits?   ;)

Hippie Vest is another good search term, Sebastian.

He bought his too.  I sent him the link to the replica vest.  We didn't understand a single word in the instructions.    ???

And here in the United Sates they're called vests or sweater vests.

We call these "tank tops:"

That's a nice Faire Isle too, Penny Lane.

I gotta ask my sister to knit me the Magical Mystery Tour one.  She'll understand the instructions.

I think the author of that pattern did one fantastic job replicating Paul's vest!

Is this from Waterfalls? I remember him wearing a vest in that video.

My daughter's just had a World War 2 tea dance at school and to her great amusement one of the male teachers wore one of these tops, as they seemed to be popular at that time in history. Knowing that teacher, I think they were all lucky he didn't team it with his 'popular' shorts and sandals look he often rocks in the summer! Talk about 'the teachers who taught me weren't cool!' ha2ha
