I learned last night that half a dozen glasses of wine and my old wedding video is a very bad combination.  :'(

Be careful with that stuff, Kathleen.

Thank you, Barry; I will. I rarely overindulge like that; it's been years, actually. I learned a good lesson the other night. The kids were at their father's place or else I'd never have done something so foolhardy.

Yes Kathy, that's my back yard. The tree line going back on the left is an old cow walk that goes down to the river across the road below when this used to be a working farm. A lot of wildlife use this for shelter as it's rather overgrown and it's safe. I'm fencing in my garden in the field that you can see in the back past my little land bridge I built a few years ago. As soon as the ground gives up the frost I'm going to be out there!

Just a good scoop of wildlife feed in the am. It keeps them away from my arborvitaes and holly's! They're very hungry this year with the hard winter. They've been around us for about 8 years and I've gotten to know them. There are a couple of them I see regularly around 10pm after work so I stop with the window down and talk to them. they stay and listen for a minute before they move on.

I tried the wildlife feed routine.  The deer still eat my holly.

I saw a whole flock of wild turkeys in my yard this morning.  Last night, I saw a skunk wandering around my yard.  I've got deer, foxes, 'possums, skunks, groundhogs, squirrels, chipmunks, racoons, garter snakes, robins, crows, turkeys, cardinals, mourning doves...all sorts of critters hanging around my yard.

There's an owl in one of my trees that hoots all night long...

My dogs run everything away. Well one of them anyways. The bulldog is lucky to get outside before he has to lay down and take another nap.

It's a regular wild kingdom up there! Even though we live in town we get a lot of deer in the back yard. They don't seem the least
bit afraid of us or the dogs. I think they like the apples I put out for them. I don't mind them but I hope I never encounter one of those howling coyotes I sometimes hear at night.

I should add I put up a chicken wire/grade stake fence around the arborvitae's and spray everything with deer off. I use the feed as the path of least resistance. They still get some of our tree's but we are also a wildlife habitat so I try to walk the walk and protect my trees as well.

I forgot to mention field mice, bluejays and woodpeckers.  A racoon once got into my house though the chimney and fireplace.  Those critters can be fierce!  I opened all the doors and garage doors and finally chased him out.  At one point he tried climbing the brick wall at the fireplace.  I still have claw marks on some of the bricks.

I put a screen on top of the chimney so no more critters can get in that way.   :)

I'm envious of you guys, getting to see all this wildlife! All I ever see is the occasional jackrabbit or clumsy pheasant meandering by the side of the road. Oh, yes, and there was a bit of an uproar last fall when a moose was spotted wandering in the golf course across the street.   ;)

At one point he tried climbing the brick wall at the fireplace.  I still have claw marks on some of the bricks.

A brick fireplace! Now I've added your place, in addition to Dave's house and Kelley's house, to my list of Residences To Envy.  ;D
