Best voice?
« on: June 04, 2004, 03:07:05 AM »

well i'm a new comer here but not a new fan.Anyways not sure if this has been discussed before, probably has, but at the risk of being redundant who had the best voice?i got to go with John.paul and george definitely had great voices, but as a musician if i could sound like one vocalist it would be john, period.he could sound wistful and with longing,(my favorite lennon trait)and he could rock the house as well.i just love his voice!

Best 'formal' voice (range, etc.) - Paul
Best 'rock' voice - John, hands down
George- Good harmony voice, passable lead vocal
Ringo.  Well, Ringo.  Great personality.  :)

Not even interesting to discuss. John's voice is best rock voice, ever, period.

But Chazza, I'm puzzled at your "formal" voice rating for Paul. What's a "formal" voice?

hi !
i don't agree with you
for my mine, i think it's paul's voice the best. his voice is very sweet (it's wonderful to hear him )
May i add that the best is when they're singing all together ...

Well, not to bore you further ( ;-D ) I simply meant a more classical idea of a flexible and sweeter voice styling.  Something like that.

Well, we never got to really see John live all that much, but after the Beatles broke up yeah, he was pretty raggedy as a performer.  Then again it was a looser time.
Even with The Beatles I think Lennon had a bit of stagefright.
McCartney sang Yesterday on his own but I don't recall a Lennon solo spot.
And they usually closed with Paul screaming Long Tall Sally or I'm Down, didn't they?
John only "allowed" Paul to play Yesterday as a solo once - Blackpool Night Out. John sang the opening number at most of their gigs (Twist And Shout), and that is the most nerve-wracking thing to do. The closing number is the easist. ;D

John had the best rock voice, but overall Paul is the winner.

Paul.

I think he had the most pleasant voice. I also have the feeling that John went out of tune more often than Paul.

Don't worry m.c.I think everybody understood except Maria.

As for me, I think Lennon was pretty good in the studio but McCartney is better live.

Zipp, you've done it AGAIN! I didn't understand what Charlie meant, so I asked: and as a result I found out. Too bad if I was the only one.

But here's the point: YOU should ask what people mean a bit more often, as you have so often been confused by words, and misinterpreted them.

Hi, Maria.I thought you said this topic wasn't worth discussing.

But you'll no doubt correct me on that.

I certainly will. The topic that's not worth discussing is the voice thing.

WE are discussing something else entirely. And guess what, zipp? Yep, you missed the point again!

Paul. I thought he had the best screams out of the group.

Hmmmm, not so sure about that, listen to Paul's backing vocal on And I Love Her - especially the 2nd "was in vain...". Paul's voice cracks up on the mono version, and totally disappears altogether on the stereo mix.

Paul also sings out of tune on Hold Me Tight (although this may have been deliberate).

They both had amazing voices - Paul had the greater range but John had great power and feeling; one of the greatest EVER rock voices.
