------------------------------

did anyone have this?
capitol released it in '76 and kind of repackaged the beatles as a 50s group
the album art was like a 50's diner with pics of cars with fins, marilyn monroe, a jukebox and an old coke glass on the album label.
there was a big 50s revival happening at the time with movies like american graffiti and shows like happy days and sha na na
george martin supposedly had problems with the mixes they used
a u.s. single of got to 'get you into my life/helter skelter' was released and went to number 7 on billboard charts

i did have this album when i was young - it was a present - and i came to enjoy the lineup of songs.

I had it. I gave it to my girlfriend then, and bought myself a Rod Stewart album. We both realized we coveted what the other had, so we traded!

This was one of the first Beatles albums I got - back in the late 1970s. I had this and Love Songs and used to play them constantly.
I had an old acoustic guitar and I taught myself how to play guitar by learning a few chords and then playing along to these two albums over and over.
There's a lot of fairly simple 3-chord tunes on Rock n Roll Music so it was a good one to start with.

I think they're both good compilations, though I agree that the Rock n Roll Music album cover isn't great.
I haven't listened to either of these records for years - I may dig them out today and give them a spin!

I don't know about other countries, but in the UK the two LPs of Rock and Roll Music were re-released a few years as separate single LPs, with different cover artwork....

Yes, I have this one. I always wondered what The Night Before and Got To Get You Into My Life where doing on this compilation, as I felt it wasn't exactly rock-'n-roll. Still an enjoyable compilation.

Another cool thing about the double album was how it had sides one and four on one disc and sides two and three on the other . . . .

i think that was for automatic turntables with the tall spindles that used to stack and drop the records

I have the US version on vinyl. It's a good selection of tunes, but I just hate the album art. I like what dr_beatle made.

Even though I am only 15, I am fortunate enough to have it on cassette - for me it's one of the greatest compilations they brought out - The Beatles - 'just a great little rock n' roll band'. 8)

Yeah, I bought this when it came out in the 70's. I was 14. It was an interesting compilation but it gave me the chance to hear 'new' songs, meaning ones off albums i had yet to buy.

an amazing fact about this album is that John offered to do the cover art himself (with something different to what came out) and EMI REJECTED HIS IDEA!!!

Yeah, the artwork is terrible. Almost as bad as Magical Mystery Tour. It looks like one of those albums you'd order off TV with the scrolling song list.

Where would you rate The White Album?

I guess I'm the only one who liked it/likes it. Isn't it a variation of a pic off "The Beatles Second Album!"? Anyway, I can't defend my liking it, it's just something I've become accustomed to. like John's nose or Paul's head bobs.

Sorry!

Hey, I just noticed, they made George look smaller than John and Paul, sort of like Davy Jones of the Monkees. The end effect seems to be to have Paul be more prominent than George, even though he is BEHIND him. I wonder if the original photo was like that too, somehow?
