SSG Results: Revolver
« on: September 16, 2007, 11:02:04 AM »

It's been a big vote, with a massive 28 people voting this week. Go to the top of the class! Here's the results:

1. Tomorrow Never Knows   25
2. Eleanor Rigby   23
3. Taxman   22

The remaining votes went to:

4. I'm only sleeping   19
=4. For no one   19
6. And your bird can sing   13
=6. Dr Robert   13
8. Got to get you into my life   11
9. She said she said   10
10. Here there and everywhere   8
11. Love you to   6
12. I want to tell you   1

The worst song was: Love You To with 7 votes

Useless facts: This is the first time that George has had 'worst song'. Also the first time that each winning song has been written by a different member of the band.

To illustrate how closely the vote was split on this one, Tomorrow Never Knows received the smallest percentage of votes for any winning song so far, just under 15%. It was also the first winning song to receive a vote in the 'worst' category.

Wow, I thought 'For No One' would make the top 3! Still though nice results, we are talking a near perfect album here.

Interesting results, although I though Dr. Robert was going to receive the most vites as worst song.
I'm glad Taxman made the top 3!

I was hoping "I'm only Sleeping" and "For No One" would make it! I was a bit surprised too by "Taxman's" inclusion (still a great song).

im not sure i just thought it was gonna be a top 5 finish for it, i always felt its strongest points were the incredible bass line and guitar work but not  as a standout song.

i never got the impression it was top 3 material from everyone elses discussions of revolver  :-/

I think Taxman is one of the best songs in the album.

Sorry but in retrospect, I think "Taxman" recieved a sympathy vote.  I enjoy it but I think there are far better songs on the album like "I"m only Sleeping" and "For No One". Oh well we have to suffer through the illinformed masses.

I don't know about sympathy vote, though I think one or two songs have been getting that treatment. The vote for Revolver was spread over a lot of songs. No less than 9 of them got into double figures. In fact, of the songs that finished top, 'Tomorrow Never Knows' was the worst performing of the lot. So I think if there'd been a mass outpouring of sympathy for Taxman, it would have had more votes, and we'd have seen a bigger gap.

Sorry, but my thoughts re Mr Harrison are well known yet I voted for Taxman. It is an excellent song, from strident guitar and funky bass line. Even George manages a suprisingly strong vocal.
This is all about peoples favourites. I certainly don't consider I'm Only Sleeping "far better" though it is good enough. Isn't it a bit presumptious and illinformed to consider your own tastes (for this is what this poll is all about) so superior to others?
Maybe it's a little dose of self-righteousness that's making you suffer so?
