I think it's one of his best albums ... very melodic and some songs are awesome: he was composing really well a-gain!!!

To me his best solo song is Stuck Inside a Cloud, sometimes I cry when I listen to it. I still don't understand how Brainwashed sold so badly.

Well, that could be because George's albums didn't sell really well after the early 1970's I think.

Sorry, but Cloud Nine sold respectably when was released in 1987. I guess it sold 2-3 million copies, and provided a #1 US single and another Top 40 hit. Considering that Brainwashed was his first album since 2002 (and defnitely his last album, I mean, he's dead!  :B), it deserved to be at least an UK/US Top 10 hit. What a shame. Lack of promotion I suppose.  ::)

From good ol' Wiki :
"Part of Harrison's strategy for his comeback was making himself seen. He appeared with Starr at the Prince's Trust Concert that June performing "While My Guitar Gently Weeps" and was actively involved in promoting the upcoming album."
I think on the basis of one hit the album did as well as expected.

I was never surprised that Brainwashed didn't sell that well. George was hardly a self publicity machine like Macca. He hadn't had a solo album out for 15 years, and The Wilbury's were long forgotten by that time. He'd done one short tour in Japan in the early 90's, and one gig at The Albert. Hardly putting yourself in the public eye.

I found Brainwashed recorded at 500,000 units, so it's probably got a gold listing somewhere, but as I can't remember the date that number is not very meaningful. (I can't find the source now in my files.)

Wingsman, where did you find the sales info for Cloud Nine?

I wrote some other stuff today about Beatles record sales here (reply #4):

I always thought it was funny that 'I Got My Mind Set On You' reached #1 and it was freaking cover tune.

I think most of the listening public lost its taste after the 60s, and we entered the Age of Confusion. There is no other explanation in my mind for the phenomena of disco and rap.

Fortunately, the other songs on Cloud Nine are so strong, I don't care (actually I do, but I'll pretend I don't) that what people wanted to hear was (steels self), "I Got My Mind Set On You". Buyers got "Cloud 9", "That's What It Takes", "Fish on the Sand" -- heck, the whole album is good. I even particularly enjoy the bonus track "Shanghai Surprise", to my complete... surprise. Wonderful arrangement. I don't want to ever see this movie; it might spoil the song for me. :)
