Second Hollywood Bowl Show Added Due To Pre-Sale Demand!

Due to unprecedented demand, a second show - March 31 - has been added for Paul McCartney's Up and Coming Tour at the Hollywood Bowl. Tickets will be available to American Express cardholders exclusively now through Saturday, February 27 at 10 p.m. The public on sale for both the March 30 and 31 dates remains Sunday, February 28 at 10 a.m.

McCartney’s extensive Up and Coming 2010 tour will begin Sunday, March 28 at the Jobing.com Arena in Glendale, Arizona--Paul’s first appearance in Arizona since 2005’s completely sold out 37-date US Tour. In keeping with his headline - making special concerts over the last few years, the Up and Coming tour will see McCartney and his band play unique venues, places and locations in both new cities he’s never played and familiar markets he’s not visited for a while.

The March 30 and 31 Hollywood Bowl shows mark McCartney’s first shows at the legendary venue in 17 years. Paul first appeared at the Bowl with The Beatles 46 years ago in August 1964 and then again a year later in August 1965, shows that were recorded for a live album (The Beatles At Hollywood Bowl) not released until May 1977.

The Arizona and California dates will be Paul’s first US shows since his five - week Summer Live ‘09 tour last year, which was prefaced by a triumphant sold out headline set at the 2009 Coachella festival and a surprise performance for the Late Show with David Letterman on the marquee of the Ed Sullivan Theater (inside which The Beatles made TV history decades ago) that drew throngs packing Broadway from Columbus Circle to Times Square. The ‘Summer Live ‘09′ tour began in earnest with an already legendary inaugural run of shows at New York’s Citi Field Stadium, the site of the former Shea Stadium where The Beatles played the 1965 concert that set the precedent for the modern day stadium rock show. Critics hailed the Citi Field performances, seen by over 100,000 people, as the concert experience of a lifetime. Those performances were immortalized on last year’s RIAA gold - certified multi - disc CD/DVD Good Evening New York City.

The new show will feature a typically diverse set list drawing on 2 hours plus worth of selections spanning the catalogues of The Beatles, Wings and Paul’s solo career, including tracks from The Fireman’s 2008 album Electric Arguments. There will be some never-before-played-on-US-soil songs added to the set list as well as the US live premiere of ‘(I Want To) Come Home’, Paul’s Golden Globe nominated track from the film Everybody’s Fine.

Tickets and VIP Packages for both shows click here

Tickets For March 30 & 31 L.A. Shows Go On Sale To Public Sunday, February 28

More live shows to be announced soon. Keep checking back here!

I haven't gotten tickets yet. I gotta talk my mom into letting me go first, lol. Which sucks because she thinks it's an extravagant waste of money, so I have to try and talk her into it pretty fast here.

This is Jobing.com Arena, in Phoenix. I've never been there (haha) so I was really antsy about getting good seats, but now that I've seen it I'm really happy because it's small enough that even the cheap seats are pretty good seats.  ;D

If I am not mistaken, Paul played DC and Maryland last year as well as multiple dates in NY. He loves playing in NY so it's not inconceivable that he'd play there again someday.

Puerto Rico, though? Cool, I can't recall if he's played there before. I've heard rumors of him doing Mexico or South America this year...sooo...we shall see.

Oomu, good luck convincing your mom. My own 'rents are not concertgoers themselves so I could see them calling this a waste of money too. However, I believe the tix for AZ start at $45 (not including fees/taxes), so while it's not "cheap", it's not an impossible price to pay. I hope she says yes; Paul is a force of nature when he performs live. :)

Yeah I'm pretty hopeful! And my mom already said that she'd definitely get tickets if he comes anywhere close, because both of my parents love Paul as well :) (Though not to my obsessive degree hahaha)

I agree. Pittsburghs building a new venue for the Penguins and theres been rumours and buzz that Pauls going to open it up with a show. My only problem is that I have no desire to go. I've seen him 5 times already and each time, it loses some of its luster. It would take a drastic change in the setlist for me to even consider going at this stage.

By all means though, if you havent already seen him, go and enjoy the experience.

Got three tickets for Hampden Park, Glasgow this morning.
The seats are in the block right in front of the centre of the stage, 15 rows back.
I cannot wait until June! I'm taking my daughter to her first Macca show as well, which will be great.
I'm hoping he plays Mull of Kintyre since it's in Scotland.

Oh my god. I just had my heart broken into a thousand tiny little pieces.

My local radio station was giving away Paul tickets to anyone who could answer a "Paul trivia" question. So I tuned in and whipped my phone out but they were answering someone's call at the time and asked him "Who did Paul write the song 'When I'm 64' for?" Guy answered "His dad," I cried, he won. That's not even the right answer. *weeps*

Apparently they're doing it all week but to be quite honest I don't have a whole lot of hope. Will still keep trying though.

I dunno, I read that he wrote it when he was a teenager but then recorded it finally for his dad's 64th birthday. But that's not the pointttt Emilyyyyyy.

Aha! I found it. It's in A Hard Day's Write. I knew I'd read it somewhere. That would have driven me nuts if I hadn't gone and looked for it, haha.

Quote
Although the song was written with his father in mind, it was coincidental that he was 64 when it was eventually released. "My dad was probably only 56 when I wrote it," Paul said. "Retirement age in Britain is 65, so maybe I thought 64 was a good prelude. But probably 64 just worked well as a number."

And I know that I'm being picky and honestly, I would have answered the question the same way, but goddddd.

Sorry about your radio station tix, Oomu... :( This is why I hate calling radio stations for contests. Either the line is always tied up or someone else beats me to the chase. Just keep trying--maybe you'll get lucky.

And I'm assuming that your mom isn't willing to shell out for Paul or Ringo tickets? :(

Yeah I'm not going to that concert. They're not even selling tickets in doubles anymore, only singles. And as for the stupid radio station, this morning they didn't even announce they were opening up the lines, they just all the sudden had someone on the phone. And their question was "What is Paul's middle name?"

First guy that answered said "Lawrence." LAWRENCE. I don't even know what to say to that.

I guess I can take comfort in the fact that this is Paul we're talking about. He'll tour again, we all know it. I think.

Paul is coming to my town (Puerto Rico)!!  I'm pretty excited since this will be the first time he performs here, and I received some $$ a few days ago so I will be able to attend.  Presale starts tomorrow for AMEX card holders at 12PM; my mom is an AMEX cardmember so hopefully I will be able to score some good seats.  I thought I would never be able to see a Beatle performing live, but that dream is about to come true!

 ???

I think that's just a tabloid, isn't it? Gossip sites like to make up stuff...I doubt Paul will quit touring until he's physically unable to perform or has other more pressing issues going on (family stuff, etc.). Why would he quit now if he's healthy and still can play? He loves performing and people are still paying big bucks to see him.

Thanks I_Will!  I was able to get tickets, although they were expensive IMHO and I wasn't able to get the ones I had in mind.  I'm not very close to the stage, but I guess this is a once in a lifetime opportunity and I will enjoy the concert (even though my seats are pretty far away from the stage  :( )

Congrats on your tickets!! I'm sorry your seats were further than you thought, but I think you will be okay as long as the venue has good speakers and big screens. You'll get swept up in the spirit of the event, so have a great time!

There's also rumours he will play Moscow's Red Square plus The Colosseum in Rome, Italy.

I think that rumour started because a journalist mis-read the tour press release (which mentioned some of Macca's past touring highlights).
I remember reading about this on the forum at Paul's website - someone posted a link to the press release and to the article, and you could see that the journalist had plucked out a sentence about where Paul has played in the past and had written it up as if that was where he is playing on this tour.
IIRC, it was a newspaper based in Scotland.

What are the chances of Paul making changes to his set list for this tour, do you think?
Much of his set (Hey Jude, Let It Be, Band on the Run, Jet, Let Me Roll It, Lady Madonna, I Saw Her Standing There, Yesterday, etc) has been done to death on his tours for the past 20 years.
I know that people seeing Paul for the first time will probably want to hear him do stuff like Yesterday, so fair enough there are going to be "must-haves" like this and Hey Jude in the set, but it would be nice to see a totally revamped bunch of songs.
I know that he does rotate some of the Beatles content - adding songs like I've Got a Feeling and Helter Skelter on recent tours, which is great.
But he seems to almost totally ignore the Wings era apart from the BOTR album and My Love. Why not do stuff from Back to the Egg or London Town? I'd love to hear Getting Closer or With A Little Luck, for example.
And his post-wings solo stuff always seems under-represented as well, apart from a handful of songs from whichever album he is promoting at that particular time.
He has such a huge back catalogue of stuff to choose from, and him and his band are such fine musicians, that I'd expect him to mix it up a bit more.
But he seems to stick to largely the same set list (and even the same song introductions) from show to show and even from tour to tour!!

What are the chances of Paul making changes to his set list for this tour, do you think?

This is a consistent topic at Macca's official board.

I think more serious Paul fans would like him to mix things up (and I'm in agreement), but who are the majority of his concert-goers? Are they just casual Beatles fans? I swear to God I've read complaints from "fans" on the Internet who b**** and moan about Paul playing too many songs they don't recognize (Wings/solo), so they get bored. I think these people tend to get the most excited when they hear old classics they do know.

^^I noticed that on that board, it seems the concert section is dedicated to it! While hardcore Macca fans would probably like to see him change up the setlist, I think he's making the right decision by keeping it the same mostly.

Yeah, most of the fans at his concerts are casual Beatle fans who only go to hear the Beatle songs mainly. It's bull. 60%ish of his setlist are Beatle songs. He seriously needs to mix it up and play more Wings and solo stuff. He has such a vast catalog of songs that it's just sad that he sticks to the same stuff every time. It is boring and it's old. That said, I'd still see him in concert.

I sort of sense and have a bad feeling about why the he has stuck to certain songs over the years when the he will not play songs from 66 and earlier.

Just a gut feeling and I do believe I know the answer and not mention why.

Do you really have to bring up the Paul is Dead stuff here as well? And like Tamara said.. "Yesterday", "I Saw Her Standing There", "I'll Follow The Sun", "Drive My Car", "I Wanna Be Your Man", "I've Just Seen A Face", "Can't Buy Me Love", etc.

All pre 66 songs I've seen footage of him perform within the last ten or so years.

^^I will be so unhappy if he goes there and not New York, Philly, or DC. The way Pennsylvania is shaped, Pittsburgh is 7 hours away from me, and just too far :( Philly and DC are about 2-3 hours away, and New York's not so far by train. But if he comes just THAT close but not close enough, I'm going to....

Especially the V&M/RS medley, 1985 and Letting Go. Shocked the hell out of me when I saw that. He hadn't played the medley or Letting Go since the 1976 American tour with Wings.

12. Every night

Paul skipped that one at the LA HB show last night. Huge bummer since it's one of my fave solo songs of his. But last night was great. :D A very energetic show and the new songs sounded excellent. I loved V&M/Rockshow and Nineteen Hundred and Eighty Five! Paul's voice cracked at a few instances but he sounded strong the majority of the time.

Paul is playing in Mexico City in May, BTW. I can't find an online source that says this, but Mexico City is clearly mentioned as a tour stop from the HB's concert program (sandwiched in between Puerto Rico and Dublin).

Oh yes, I checked the weather tonight and the rain held up for you guys. That is great. If I hadn't had work tonight, I would've been tempted to go back to the HB and see if they had extra tix for Wednesday night.

As for parking, I just got to the HB early and decided to cough up the cash for their outrageous stacked parking fees. I actually had an easy time leaving (amazingly), but I stupidly got lost on the way home and took a huge detour. Oh well!

Sondra, Paul's version of Something is always magnificent. Definitely one of my faves from his live shows too.

Euan, I think they'll have the same type of shirt for the entirety of Paul's tour, or at least I hope so. They also had a keychain and a poster with the same design. Plus, they were selling baseball caps, tote bags, 8x10" pics of Paulie, other shirts, a jacket, programs, etc. I was considering getting the jacket but they didn't have any in my size, not to mention it was very pricey.

I have no idea if I'll wear my Paul concert shirt cuz I want it to last forever. Maybe I'll only reserve it for special Beatles-related events. ;)

FutureStar, let us know how your concert went!!

Macca struggles to sell Hampden concert tickets

    * 9160276

    * Tickets went on sale 10 weeks ago for Sir Paul McCartney’s city gig

Russell Leadbetter

17 May 2010

The long-awaited Sir Paul McCartney gig at Hampden Park in June is still not a sell-out – 10 weeks after it was first announced.

McCartney’s concert will mark the former Beatle’s first Scots gig in nearly 20 years and tickets, priced between £55 and £85, are understood to have sold steadily, with front row briefs still selling on eBay for £110 a pair.

His sales compare with that of boy band Take That, who put on a third show at the national stadium after their original two dates sold out quickly last year.

Dozens of fans also camped out overnight in order to obtain tickets for Bruce Springsteen’s first gig in Glasgow for 13 years in July 2009, which went on to be a sell-out, as did U2’s concert at the same venue last year.

Ken McNab, a Glasgow-based expert and author of The Beatles in Scotland, said: “I think the fact that the Hampden show is not sold out yet is simply down to the state of the economy.

“People are having to be very careful with their money, and the tickets are quite expensive.

“I bought four tickets at £80 each. I have seen him several times before, but I did hesitate on the grounds of cost and also McCartney’s age – he is now 67.”

The Hampden Park setlist is expected to include a number of Fab Four songs that the Beatles never performed live.

McCartney said: “It’s always good to get back to Scotland because I’ve got a special affection for the wee place. I’ve never done Hampden before and it’s legendary.

“The country is a very special part of the isles we live in. It’s had a kind of romantic thing for me since I first went there with the Beatles.”

McCartney added that “the crowds are always great”.

His last gig in Glasgow was on June 23, 1990, when he played the SECC as part of Glasgow’s European City of Culture celebrations.

This guy's reasoning is hilarious!!!  Does he think Macca will cark it onstage thus depriving him of his money's worth??   LOL!!!!!

While we're on the subject, does anyone out there know if Macca is touring Australia?

If you got to do it do it right. ha2ha  Problem is that I have heard the message a couple of times before: 'This is going to be his last tour.' According to Paul, it's not. He will play as long as he can. Maybe not intense tours, but certainly an on and off tour like this.

Wow, I wish I had a friend who would bug me to go to a Paul concert. :P None of my friends are huge enough Beatles/Paul fans to care that much.

Hope you won't wind up spending TOO much money, but have fun!

^^You're going today? That's awesome! Have a GREAT time!!

When he announced his Pittsburgh concert a couple weeks ago, my heart skipped a beat 'cause I live in northeast Ohio and it's only about 2 1/2 hours away. But then I'm like, "I doubt it'll happen 'cause it's expensive and I have my high school graduation party coming up." Well, I started this job watching puppies, and got $315 the week of June 6th alone. And I had some graduation money from several people, and definitely went for it! When the tickets went on sale last Monday, ticketmaster.com was all jammed up and kept saying there were no tickets available. I was freaking out and actually crying 'cause I thought they were all sold out already. So my mom called them, and the guy said a second show was added on for August 19th 'cause of high demand. And he said he had two $250 tickets left for the 19th, so we got them. They're floor seats, all the way at the back by that sound panel thing. I got very lucky, so me and my dad are going, and it's part of his father's day present. It's expensive, but doesn't bother me at all 'cause it's worth it. I've never been to a Paul concert, and I've been dying to ever since I became a Beatles fan four years ago. Sooooooooo excited beyond belief!!!!!

An Apple Beatle and Penny Lane, thank you so much!  ;D

And Euan Buchan, thanks for posting the pictures and videos. Looks like you had good seats! So how long was the concert, about 3 hours? I love how he does Day Tripper now, and that was cool when all those people went on stage to play Mull of Kintyre. Loved the fireworks for Live and Let Die! Once you're done with your review, you should post it on this site. I'd love to read it.  ;D

Thanks for posting the photos and videos Euan.
I was at the gig as well, with my wife and seven-year-old daughter. We all had a brilliant time.
Highlights for me were probably some of the songs I hadn't seen him play before, like Mrs Vandebilt, And I Love Her, I've Got A Feeling, Day In The Life and Helter Skelter.
I also loved seeing the full band version of Something - with the photos of George on the big screens.
The Live And Let Die fireworks were great - my daughter was loving it!!
And of course Mull of Kintyre. I'm not Scottish myself - from just the other side of the border - but it was great to see him play this in Glasgow, which is one of my favourite cities.
The whole gig was great - probably my favourite Macca gig, and I've been to half a dozen since 1989.

Euan and Pete, so happy you guys enjoyed Paul's show. Too bad he'll never do MOK in the US (I think?), especially not California. I'd like to hear it in person!

Beatlemaniac, Paul's shows are nearly three hours long. I recommend using the restroom beforehand and not drinking too much during the show if you want to stay for the entire concert! When I was at the Hollywood Bowl for Paul this year, I overheard a young woman who said she held it all in because she didn't know Paul's show would be so long!

When I heard in March that Paul was coming to Glasgow in June my reaction was like brilliant when are tickets available?. But then my family all stared and thought oh dear! we will be on holiday on the day he performs, I said I will not miss this great opportunity so quick as a flash my family resheduled our holiday to the first two weeks in June so we will be home in time for the concert. When presale tickets came out a few days before general release my Dad booked 3 tickets for himself, Mum & I, we got really good seats down at the pitch so we were really happy now all we had to do was wait until the summer.

We had a pretty good holiday up in the Outer Hebrides sad to leave but we were excited that on Sunday we will see Paul McCartney. From watching my Paul live DVD's many times I notice the audience wear Beatles tshirts so on the night before the concert I had trouble on what to wear but decided to wear my Beatles Ben Sherman shirt.

The day on the concert I was very excited counting down the hours until the show started, we headed down to Glasgow and when we parked around the corner of the venue we couldn't believe how hot it was with the sun beaming down it looked like it will be a great day for the concert. We had arranged to meet my Mum's cousin who had a flat up the road so we had a chat and a drink. On arriving to Hampden Park we were all excited found our seats great spot and the venue was quickly filling up. I headed to the merchandise stall and bought myself a tour tshirt & programme before the show started just incase I wouldn't get time after the show. Sharleen Spiteri was the supportr act and she was really good, got the crowd going with Texas tracks.

at 8pm we were told to head to our seats as a announcer said Paul McCartney will be on stage in 5 mins and at 8.10pm Paul & his band bounded on stage and the crowd went wild. Paul opened the show with Venus and Mars / Rockshow then jumping into Jet, Paul was on top form wearing a black jacket and then surprised all Scottish fans with a blue shirt with white braces. I got a tear in my eye during the performances of The Long & Winding Road, Here Today & Something (both tributes to John & George, My Mum & Dad really loved Paul's version of A Day In The Life and cutting to Give Peace A Chance Mum didn't expect that I told her to flash the peace sign in the air. The highlight of the show was Live & Let Die which blasted of with fireworks and Mull Of Kintyre with a fantastic pipeband. I really didn't want it to end I could of danced all night but sadly it was all over with Paul telling us 'You've been a great audience' and he finished the show with Sgt Pepper/The End. This was Paul's first gig in 20 years in Scotland since he last played in 1990 in the SECC. I do hope he will return soon and now I can really say I Saw Him Standing There.

^^Thank you for posting that! It was interesting, and I liked how you ended it.  ;) One more question for you: how did you manage to bring in a camera to take pictures and videos? Did you just sneak it somehow? I really want to bring mine, but I know they have high security and search people, and thought for sure they wouldn't let cameras into the show.

And thank you Penny Lane for the good advice! I'll keep that in mind 'cause whenever I'm at the movie theater or something that happens to me!

Thanks for your review of the Glasgow gig Euan.
I was there too and - having seen Paul live 6 times now since 1990 - I think that was the best I have seen him, even better than Liverpool a few years ago.
The Glasgow crowd were great and there was a real friendly party atmosphere all evening.
I went with my wife and 7-year-old daughter and we had a great couple of days in Glasgow - one of my favourite cities (even though I'm English!  ;D)

South American websites are continuing to toss around more rumors of a Paul McCartney tour in November even while those rumors are being officially denied.

Clarín.com is reporting that McCartney will do two shows in Buenos Aires in November. "Paul McCartney tocará por segunda vez en Buenos Aires. Ayer se confirmó que el ex Beatle se presentará con su banda el 14 y 15 de noviembre."  Roughly translated, it says "Yesterday it was confirmed that the former Beatle and his band will be presented on 14 and 15 November." It says the concert and the location are in negotiations."

But writer Ancelmo Gois says the shows will not at the Maracanã in Rio De Janeiro, another location previously rumored. Instead, he writes McCartney will play Nov. 10-11 at the Morumbi, a 67,000 seat stadium in São Paulo, Brazil.   "Por causa das obras no Maracanã, o Rio vai ficar de fora da nova turnê de Paul McCartney no Brasil. Ele deve se apresentar nos dias 10 e 11 de novembro no Morumbi, em São Paulo," the blog reads. Rough translation: "Because of the workmanships in the Maracanã, the River goes to be of is of new turnê of Paul McCartney in Brazil. It must present itself in days 10 and 11 of November in the Morumbi, in São Paulo."

El Globo, citing the Clarín.com report, wrote that McCartney could be performing in Brazil, Chile and Peru. And earlier, HumoNegro.com reported that McCartney also would do a show in Chile Nov. 7.

But all of this is moot, at least for now. When asked to comment, McCartney representatives told Paul McCartney Examiner they could not confirm any of the shows.
