So, what's these messages in the Spanish media all about? That Holland is not much more than Sneijder, Robben and an agressive midfielder called Van Bommel? That Holland reaching the final was a matter of pure luck? That Spain is virtually world champion already? That Spain had rather played the final against a "real" team like Brazil?
Self confidence is one thing. Plain arrogance is another.
I agree.
Actually, of the two teams in the final, I have thought that the Netherlands have looked the best of the two throughout the tournament, not Spain.
To be honest, after watching the group stage I didn't expect either of these teams to reach the final - I thought it might be Germany, or Argentina, or Brazil.
The Netherlands were probably 4th on my list of likely winners.
Until the match against Germany, Spain haven't looked anything special at all to me. Yes, they're definitely in the top ten teams (unlike England!!
) but I don't think they have any cause to be arrogant about playing against the Netherlands.
But having said that, I'm pleased that two teams are in the final who haven't won the World Cup before. And both teams have done really well to get to the final, especially considering that Germany, Argentina and Brazil were all playing so well in the early stages of the tournament.
I'm totally neutral when it comes to these two teams so I just hope it's a great match on Sunday. Good luck to all you Spain and Netherlands supporters.
