Title: The Love You Make
Post by: Mairi on December 27, 2004, 05:56:57 PM
I got this book for Christmas and finished it yesterday. It's very engaging, if a trifle sensationalist, and I'm not really interested in reading about their sex lives. The book focused on John alot though and I think it made him sound a little bit nasty. It was very entertaining anyhow.

Has anyone else read this book, and can they validate some of the facts in it?

I read it long ago.
Is that the one that claims George went to bed with Maureen? And when asked why he just shrugged and said 'incest'?
I agree about focusing on what they did behind closed doors a bit too much.
I really don't remember much else. I've got at least 30 Beatles books, I can't keep which said what straight!
maybe somebody else can help?

There was something about that in there, and it also said some stuff about John and Brian.

Yeah I know. ::) I seem to remember he once sent a guy to the hospital who mentioned something about the two of them. Seriously, i just can't picture John and Brian together anyways. It just doesn't seem like them. Y'know?

Yeah, that happened at Paul's 21st birthday party, I think it was just after John and Brian came back from Spain - Bob Wooller, the DJ at the Cavern Club, made some sarcastic comment about John's relationship with Brian, and then John hospitalised him! The incident actually made the national press - thier first ever mention!

Bob didn't press charges against Lennon, especially as Brian sweetened him with 200 pounds!

I read that book many years ago and promptly shelved it as a peice of sensationalism.  Peter Brown may have done some good work during the Apple years, but in the book he comes over as the only guiding light and the only saving grace the Beatles had.

I'm positive that other than business matters he really had little to do with The Beatles and a lot of the book was heresay.

It's a pity as I was really looking forward to it at the time of its release and I felt really let down by it.  Sorry, just an opinion....

Yep, that's pretty much all it talks about. But beware- lots of John/Brian crap!!
It makes the Beatles sound sleazy.

I still got to dig my others out of the shed from when I moved. I got the murder of John Lennon in there some where. In His Own Write, I'll have to dig em out.
