I mentioned this before but I always wondered about "For well you know that it's a fool who plays it cool". I processed it as just "Well, you know"..and thought "For" made no sense.
Ah! The importance of punctuation!
"For well you know" is not the same as "For,well,you know".
"For well you know" is a bit of poetic license to say "Because as you know very well".
"For,well,you know" is a much weaker line where he appears to be hesitating with the "well" as a word introduced to buy time.
I agree that this line is one of the best in the song with the idea that being "cool" makes you "colder" and more likely to be physically ill by not expressing your emotions.
