"Star Trek" fans
« on: May 15, 2009, 10:54:22 AM »

Any "Star Trek" fans here?

I just found out that CBS has a YouTube channel where they've uploaded most of the original series' episodes.  http://www.youtube.com/show?p=Zk2dX5DnW_c

The CBS official website also has all the original episodes posted.

I don't care if the special effects are cheesy or if William Shatner does overact sometimes.   ;D  This is great stuff for geeks at heart! :)

Saw the new movie, it was great. Lots and lots of references and being "true" to the original Shatner/Spock/McCoy/Scottie version. Loved it!

I've always enjoyed Star Trek, both the TV and motion picture series.  Those special effects were spectacular in the 1960s!

I'm a huge ST fan, but I won't read this thread until I see the movie. I don't want any spoilers! I'm seeing it Sat night. Cheers!

You have a good point.  I think I take the old special effects for granted because I'm so used to what we have now.   :B

But you have to admit, some of the creatures were really silly.  LOL.  Like the Gorn lizard-looking creature.   :P :P  No special effects with him, but he was shamefully bad at beating up Kirk.  ;D

I like both.  I'm not sure if it's fair to compare the two, however; although they're both sci-fi, they're so different.

BTW, I'm seeing the movie this Sunday and I hope it'll be enjoyable.

That's OK, Penny Lane.  We were glued to the TV set for a whole hour in those days.  We never saw anything like that before.  I remember reading that each time the transporter was used, the teleportation effect cost the studio two thousand dollars due to the time it took for the artists to create the effect.

I remember laughing at the Gorn throughout that episode when it first aired.  I couldn't believe Captain Kirk had so much trouble fighting him!

I never really got into Star Trek. I've been wanting to give it another chance and see the new movie. Honestly, this guy is probably the biggest reason I want to see the movie. :)

And I can still, at the drop of a hat to this day, do the sound effect of that transporter c. 1966 version!  "BRRRRRRRRRRRRrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrRRRRRRRRRR!"

Now I'm excited. I need to find someone to go with me, no one will go with me! HAHA!
Everyone's like, "I'm not into Star Trek." And I'm like, "I'm not either, but I want to see John Cho!"
