What's the New Mary Jane writing credit
« on: April 24, 2007, 02:04:05 AM »

I was wondering: why is "What's the New Mary Jane" credited as Lennon/McCartney on anthology 3? since it was never released as a Beatles song, shouldn't it have just been credited to Lennon? the anthology songs of Paul's that never made it on a Beatles album (Junk, Come and Get It, Teddy Boy) are credited soley as written by Paul McCartney.

Bit strange, that. Macca isn't even on 'Mary Jane'. I suppose that as it had never been issued before, and as it was a Beatles song not written by either George or Ringo, then it had to be credited to Lennon/McCartney. Come And Get It was a demo for Badfinger and as it was recorded by them with Maccca as writer, could hardly be re-credited. Junk and Teddy Boy first appeared - re-recorded - on Macca's first album, so also could hardly be re-credited.

It was probably because it had already been registered as a Lennon/McCartney song due to the fact that at one stage it was going to be used on The White Album.

Throughout the middle of the song is Yoko making those odd little singing/wallowing sounds?  :o
