I thought we already had a topic like this, but I couldn't find it! ha2ha
A place to share pictures of the place where you live and/or spent a lot of your time.
This is 100 meters away from my place. Lots of snow again this weekend (we just got rid of it...), but the boys enjoyed themselves again. 'Bobbing' from the dyke.

Here's a couple of the buildings on my university campus!

The Ivey building is the business school and the reflected building is called University College - it houses most of the arts classes (ex: English, French, other various languages, and film studies)

Nice pics so far, guys! ;D

This is about an hour's drive outside the city... During the summer, I should probably mention - although... it looks like that right now too. :P

^Yes, it is.
Here's a picture out my back window, on one of the sunnier days.

^^Don't be too jealous, it was about 19 degrees out that day. Despite there being many beaches near where I live, it's only ever warm enough to utilize them from June-September haha.

Oh wow, you guys...all the naturey pics I'm seeing, amazing. I've never lived in places with snow or wide open fields or anything. I've been a city girl since birth.
I don't have any great pics of where I live, but I have pics from sort of nearby if you drive. (Some of these pics are re-posts from last year.)

not common in the cities but I live in the 'burbs' and we have them in our backyard sometimes 6 or 8 in the early morning

And they got other amazing critters down there besides roos!

Well, that would be enough to get me out of bed early; at least for a while. That picture is hilarious! They look like they have little folded hands. We have white-tailed deer in our yard lots of mornings and at night but they are pretty ordinary.

The most amazing thing we get is the birdlife, hundreds of Parrots & Lorikeets

It used to be the city hall and it's still in use for marriages. Hence the horse and carriage.
There's a chapel in the backyard, built in 1435. In those early days it was a monastery. Later the office for the East Indian Company and City Hall. There's a copy of this building (that is half of it) in Lewes, Delaware.

You know, one thing I love about Helsingborg is how ridiculously close it is to Denmark. We take the ferry and visit Helsingør from time to time and it only takes about 20-30 minutes!

We can't upload pictures on this forum, but we can link to them. If you have your pictures uploaded to Photobucket or TinyPic, for example, you can insert a picture in your post by clicking on the image icon. Put the web address of your picture between the two HTML image tags which appear.

Nope, that was a real centipede. It looks somewhat bigger in the picture, but it was pretty huge. Largest one i've ever seen.
Kevin, those wallabies are cool as hell. I'm sure they are pests and you see them all the time, but we dont have wallabies where I live. Wonder what the dogs would do?

It wouldn't surprise me a bit Kevin! From the sound of it this job will be a little bit of everything. The director actually asked me if I like to garden because the person who currently holds the position, my neighbor, plants the flowers outside in the spring. If he drove past our houses he'd know that he'd better find someone else for that! Her gardening skills far exceed mine.
Oooh, Kelley, that's a gorgeous building! I'm happy for you -- looks like a beautiful work location.
Thanks Kathy!

We've lived here for 6 years. I love old houses (1801) and this one poses certain problems bit it's 90% restored and is definately "home".

Wow..I'm impressed! Impressed by the house (it's gorgeous) and by the fact that you've done all that in just six years. It's taken 26 years with my 1902 house. I've already told my kids that I am going to be one of those old ladies who will refuse to move out of their house, following in the grand tradition of my mom and her mom. ;D
-
Thanks Kelly,
I consider myself blessed to be here. I'm a sucker for a big project! This spring I'm redoing the driveway and putting in granite curbing in the parking area. It was supposed to be one 4' section to anchor the new back walkway but turned into 24' of curbing, 120 feet of edging, 10 (aprox.) yards of gravel and 1 yard of loam. Who knew!? I always pick one of two big prodjects for spring and summer and then do inside prodjects in the winter. Next outdoor is sink a new tall fence around the vegatable garden in the field. Our wild critters are grateful but...! This winter I'm converting a room into a media center/library with built in shelves etc... Better to listen to The Beatles with!
Thanks Again,
Dave

I'm getting ready to do something similar. There's a big room upstairs that used to be a half attic. It was turned into a bedroom in the 1940's but since we've been here it's been kind of a catch all affectionately known as the Outer Limits. I really need a place to keep my growing Beatles library and to work on a few other hobbies so this will be it!
-
My origional idea was the attic and someday(?) it might happen. The insulation alone was estimated at $6,000. so it will have to wait. It's good to have a room like that.

We just did the attic! It's the Man Cave now, which got me thinking that I want a room too. I don't go up there a lot but when I do I feel like I'm in one of my recurring dreams where I find I new room that I didn't know we had. It's that different.

I have that dream too Kelley but with me its an old tower with about 30 rooms that smell horrible

Was that a dream or a flashback?

Ew! That's too bad. The room is always filled with antiques in mine. LOL

New Hampshires a small place and we live in the SW corner which is known as the quiet section. We have an old quaint saying here in New England that goes "Ayyuhh, Ya caint get there from heeyah"! Well, this is one of those places!

today I went to the penthouse apartment of the highest residential building in the world, its just south of Brisbane and is higher than the Eiffel tower , I took a pic or two and heres the view (made me dizzy)

I visited Brisbane 13 years ago and although it was more a halfway stop to more Northern regions, I liked the city well enough to stay another day. I danced in the rain with a Danish girl there. lol
-
Hi dcazz, yeah I believe it can sway 2 metres at the top, I struggled get a good pic because of all the refelctions in the windows and there are no balconies after the 70th floor
those little buildings lower down are 'only' 40 floors :D

Wow, Kev! It's really cool! It looks like a very nice place!

I climbed Monadnock with about 3+ feet of snow on it in my 20's. People were hiking up a cleared trail, two friends and I went straight up the side best we could. Fun day.

People climb it all year round. The cleared trail could have been the access road to the 1/2way house. I did that in january one time but that's as far as I went. I was house bound and needed some good cold air! It's now the 2nd most climbed mountain in the world. I see it out my back door every morning.

This is not really a d**e. I'll post a picture of one. :)
The old windmills are disappearing unfortunately, although a lot are reserved. New windmills are coming to produce electricity. I will take a photo of both.

We call that a levee here, Cor.
I'm sorry to hear that the old windmills are disappearing. As a child I remember seeing travelogues showing the landscape ripe with them.
-
Oh, there are still windmills here and there. I'm lucky to have one in my very own village. They are carefully preserved nowadays.

That's one of the prettiest landscape pictures I've ever seen, Cor. There's something special about the windmills in Holland. They're shaped differently than others. Very elegant!
I'm fortunate that there aren't any windmills around here because there are times I would wind up doing this...

They look nice, Dave. I can't do that where I live. Too many deer!

I fight with them too! We mix a pepper spray or some commercial stuff that seems to work. I put up a 50 foot chicken wire fence in the winter to protect my arbor vites and burlap wrap some others. It's a job.

The world from my window...
So, we're on the edge of town, where farm country and wilderness begins. Note the monstrosity of an apartment building in the foreground and imagine them packed together, block after block as you get closer to the city center. The 'burbs, East German style.
But we're as out-of-town as you can get while technically remaining in-town, and we call this our million dollar view. The details aren't clear in the photo, but there's all that farm activity and unspoiled nature spots to take in. We really appreciate that. Great biking trails just spitting distance away as well.
The best thing in this photo is that giant blue arrow floating in the sky. OK, there's not really a giant blue arrow floating there, it's a Photoshop trick. Us tricky East Germans. But what the arrow is pointing to is a castle atop yonder hilltop, Schloss Leuchtenburg. Again, too bad you don't get the details as well in the photo. It's much clearer to the naked eye. Here's what the place is like...
We've been over there a couple of times. We once attempted climbing the hill "the hard way" up a very steep, thickly forested slope with the most tenuous of switchback hiking trails etched into the mountainside. We had to pass our bikes up to one another when the trail got too thin to walk them. Ridiculously risky; we were lucky to have gotten up there without incurring massive contusions, fractures or lacerations. The scene along the way was breathtaking. I wish I'd taken pictures. What's the idea anyway of putting a castle up on top of some hill? Rough on the tourists.
The multi-color lights at night make it look like a big Christmas tree in the distance. It's a strangely comforting landmark for us. We're such goofs.
:)
-
I'm really enjoying all these pictures and information. Schloss Leuchtenburg is amazing! I can't believe how long it's been around; since the 13th century according to this website: http://www.eupedia.com/germany/leuchtenburg-guide.shtml (http://www.eupedia.com/germany/leuchtenburg-guide.shtml) It's a good thing it's not here. It would have been torn down in the 70's. roll:) We actually had a nice restaurant here called The Castle. It was THE place for banquets, wedding receptions and a nice dinner out but it closed in 1997 after 50 years. Then 8 years later it was torn down to make way for some big commercial development that hasn't happened yet.

What a waste. It should have been preserved and kept for special functions. Would probably make a great haunted castle around Halloween. Oh well. Some people's kids.

Yeah, there's a lot of those kids running that city. They're in the the process now of replacing the main drag with a series of roundabouts:

It's a system that relies on people to use courtesy and common sense. I stick to the back streets and rear entrances!

He came from Sweden. That's a lot farther from you than I thought but still closer than from here!

I can see why! The information I have on Grandpa says he came from Ås, Halland, Sweden but that never makes sense to me when I look at a map. I'm trying to figure out if that's short for something else. It's a lot easier to research the branch of my family that came from England in the 1600's!
