they had been compared to the beatles and may have tried to simulate the formula but never quite did it...they tried to evolve but couldn't...still they had a few good tunes...as a youngster i loved this one...

a later tune shows the tired to go on...

but then they came back to the formula last year..

I like The Knack. Bruce Gary (RIP) was a great drummer. I really liked his style and he even played on a set of Ludwigs too.

Doug Fieger (singer/guitarist) died... Ringo and Barbara will attend his funeral.

I went way to Outward Bound for three weeks 10 1979 with my musical language completely Knack free. When I returned they had the number 1 album and single, billboards all over the place and were being proclaimed as the new Beatles. (But then again that was a tag used a lot in the seventies.) And then just as quickly they were gone. Awwwww.

Strangely, there was an article in this weeks Sunday Times about the very girl Sharonna, with whom one of the Knack was besotted. She got a nice career being a real estaste agent to the stars out of it. Every story does have a happy ending.

The Knack - A Hard Day's Night

Sweet. I've never heard that before. Interesting take by using the ride cymbal throughout. Cool.

Yep, great cover!  Doug even looks a bit like John with that nose.

I remember fondly when their first album came out in 1979. It was so fresh and new sounding. Probably one of the best debut albums ever. Bit of a shame the second album didn't take off the same.

The so-called comparison to the Beatles probably ruined their career because the couldn't live up to it. To me, their energy on "My Sharona" had the same energy the Beatles put into "She Loves You".

But then, didn't being labeled as the "Next Beatles" mean the kiss of death for bands over the years.

I know i'm wrong, but I always associated the Knack as more of a punk band than anything else. Its just me.

You may be right, but just to hear it on the radio, it kicked butt.
