Seems Bob wanted this for his film, but John was very paranoid about his relationship with Bob.
To quote "Johns paranoia stemmed from the fact that he had a big Bob crush. Everyone knew that he was a fan but he was rapidly gaining a reputation as a copycat."
John "I never did see it. I was so frightened."

Wow. Shows how good I am at reading body language! Dylan comes across like a real t*sser. No wonder John was uncomfortable - it seems Bob was setting him up.

From reading the transcript John comes across the winner.  JL was nobody's fool and could puncture bullsh*t.  He was a master of verbal exchange--Dylan needed setups, JL didn't.  And even if he admired Dylan's work, it's pretty clear JL's his equal--I'd stake "Across the Universe" with "All Along the Watchtower" any time.

John seemed cool & cocky while Dylan seemed out of it mentally in the conversation but I have heard about this segment for about 30 years in Don't Look Back & I FINALLY saw it.

imo, dylan is trashed on some alcoholic bev.  john just looks cool and bemused.

I think Dylan is stoned and jet lagged and John is freaked out. The transcript pretty well gives it away. Johns said afterwards how ythe whole thing frightened him.
