The Beatles released new albums in the U.K. in time for Christmas in 1963-With The Beatles (11/22), 1964-Beatles For Sale (12/4), and 1965-Rubber Soul (12/3).

Revolver was released on 8/5/66.  No new Beatles material would be released for the 1966 Christmas season. EMI put together A Collection Of Beatles Oldies, which contained several non-LP hit singles, "Eleanor Rigby/Yellow Submarine", which was released as a single from Revolver,  "Yesterday" from the Help! album, "Michelle" from Rubber Soul, and "Bad Boy" which had never been released in the U.K.

1967 had the Magical Mystery Tour E.P. released for Christmas and 1968 had the White Album.

1969 had nothing for Christmas.

Now let's get on the ibanez_ax Alternate reality and Wayback machine!

EMI released A Collection of Beatles Oldies Volume 2 for the 1969 Christmas Season.

Side comprised of all the 1967 singles and b-sides which were never released on LP at that point in time (The Magical Mystery Tour album was only available as in import until it was released as an LP in the U.K. in 1976).

Side Two comprised of 1968 and 1969 singles and b-sides.

Disclaimer-this album does not exist.  It was never released as an LP or CD by EMI.  It exists only in the mind of yours truly, George, aka ibanez_ax, who needs to get out more.  roll:)

I had the same idea some time ago, but I would have called it A Collection Of Beatles Newbies. :)

Well it was all new back then.

I think it would have been cool to be a 14 year old kid in England in 1969 and getting that for Christmas.

An interesting idea and I particularly like the back cover of your album.

However the first Oldies album didn't have B sides, it had 16 tracks and it had, as you've said, a track not released before in the UK.

Track times are generally getting  longer compred to the first colllection so I think you should have say 14 tracks.

And I see no reason not to include Come Together and Something.

If you're interested I'll have a think and give you my track list.

Well the (real) first album had 16 tracks and was 39 minutes.  The second (fake) album had 12 tracks and was around 44 minutes, which was a good length for an album in 1969.

"Come Together" and "Something" would have make the album around 51 minutes, which was not totally unheard of back then.

Who knows, EMI in the alternate reality might be inclined to put together a cd with those two songs and maybe even "Old Brown Shoe".

Thanks for the kind words about the back cover.  The photo was actually the front cover from a bootleg called "Beatles '68", someone's idea of what the White Album would look like it was pruned down to one disc.

I would like to see your track list.  The alternate EMI folks are very flexible.  ;)

Down the road, the ibanez_ax Alternate Reality and Wayback machine might visit the alternate Allen Klein and convince him to release an expanded version of the 1970 "Hey Jude" album.  Track listing suggestions would be most welcome.

OK. Here goes.

Side One :

Penny Lane
With A Little Help From My Friends
All You Need Is Love
Hello Goodbye
Lady Madonna
Hey Jude

Side Two :

Obladi-Oblada
Get Back
The Ballad of John and Yoko
Come Together
Something
Across The Universe (unreleased track, put here and not given away to the WWF album from December '69)

So that's all the A sides with the exception of Strawberry Fields, a Ringo song, a George song, 6 songs with Paul on main vocal and 4 John on main vocal.
I think your Xmas teenager would be happier with this collection.

Strawberry Fields will stay.  It's a bonafide a side and in my opinion would weaken the album by its removal.

I like adding Something and Come Together, good suggestion.

Across The Universe was promised to charity and I wouldn't want to renege on that promise in any reality.

Revolution was technically a b-side, but it got a lot of airplay, so it will stay.

Not every album had a Ringo song, so this one doesn't necessarily have to.

Ob-La-Di, Ob-La-Da was a very popular song so it could possibly replace I Am The Walrus or Baby, You're A Rich Man.

The cool part about all this is that none of it is real so we can all create our own playlists with what we think will work.  :)

Mine, however, will be on my shelf (yes, I'm showing off!  ;D)

Very nice CD !

So if you allow me my 14 tracks we can have :

Side One :

Strawberry Fields Forever
Penny Lane
With A Little Help From My Friends
All You Need Is Love
Hello Goodbye
Lady Madonna
Hey Jude

Side Two :

Revolution
Obladi-Oblada
Get Back
The Ballad of John and Yoko
Come Together
Something
The One After 909 (unreleased track, a preview of the new album coming in 1970)

Ringo stays !

And the collection ends with a track from the very beginnings.

If I get off my lazy butt and do a new front and back cover, here is what it will include:

Side One

Hey Jude
The Ballad Of John And Yoko
Something
Lady Madonna
With A Little Help From My Friends
Strawberry Fields Forever
Penny Lane

Side Two

Revolution
Ob-La-Di, Ob-La-Da
Don't Let Me Down
Hello Goodbye
All You Need Is Love
Come Together
Get Back

Or, I just might leave the original alone, which is very concise and I'm satisfied with!  :)

If, and that's a big if, One After 909 were to be included it would be the unreleased 1963 version.  But you might have to visit a different alternate reality for an album that included that one!  8)

Thanks for liking my CD!  My inner geek is rising to the surface for me doing this kind of stuff.  glassesslip  I can understand Dr. Ebbett's attention to detail not just with his needledrops, but with his covers.  Most look like factory CDs. I'd like to think his success motivated EMI to produce the 2009 remasters because his CDs were far superior than any officially released CDs.

Coming soon...

We jump in the Alternate Reality and Wayback Machine and convince Allen Klein to give record buyers better value than a 32 minute "Hey Jude" album, providing, to quote Tony Barrow from his With The Beatles liner notes "two generously filled sides of this record".

Track suggestions from all are welcome.  Hint - 10 tracks in addition to the ones on the original Hey Jude album never appeared on a U.S. Capitol album in 1970.

OK I'll settle for that. I wouldn't put the original 909 on there because it wouldn't be from the appropriate later years. A shame though that there's no unreleased track for the real fans.

I would try to keep Don't Let Me Down off and off the Hey Jude album too because it needs to be kept for the alterante reality Get Back album which should have come out in Spring/Summer '69.

I still think not giving Acrosss the Universe to the charity album would be a good idea since then we wouldn't get the slowed down dirge version . In fact we might not get Phil Spector at all.

But maybe my alternate reality is getting a bit too alternate...

Good luck with Hey Jude. I'll leave that for the US specialists.

Thanks for the feedback and suggestions.  I agree, it really is a shame what Spector did to Across The Universe (among other songs).  Thank goodness Past Masters gave us the superior original.
