Just wondering what the general concensus was re his album art, Ive been looking at all the covers and Im not that overly impressed with his solo ones.....like these..

I think the Off the ground cover is cute. The memory almost full cover is somber. It goes with some of the introspective songs on the album.
More significant is the artwork on the CD...

There are a few "clues" there. ;)
The 2-CD edition has a song called 222 on it. Could that be a reference to Batman #222...

The Off the Ground seems to be aimed at the foot fetishist market.
I quite liked the Chaos and Creation cover. Flaming Pie also was cool in a retro sort of way. Aside from that only Flowers in the Dirt grabs me cover wise. The rest are fairly bland.

Yes those 2 are the better ones I agree moog
I think McCartney is the best however
as for Off The Ground, Im not enamoured with looking at body parts (not mens anyway) ;D

I've always liked the Press To Play cover.

I like the McCartney II cover...

and this one...

Good call with "McCartney II" HG...I like the stripped down simplicity of that cover and it's a good mugshot of Paul.
Are we not including Wings here?
If we are I'd like to put in a shout for "Red Rose Speedway"
(... and "Band On The Run" is pretty cool in a cheeky Sgt Pepper-ish sorta way)
Of the truly solo efforts I've always liked the cover of "Tug Of War"

We should be!

I like that one too, MM. A lot! Front and back...

I didnt want to include Wings covers
I was really trying to discuss Paul as a solo artist
I hate the 'Paul is Live' cover
what is he doing here, why is he standing like that ?
why didnt he take a new picture of Abbey Rd, the overlay of him and his dog is so crappily done it looks like a 10 year old did it on photoshop
The first time I saw it I thought, here's Paul again, being The Beatles, one man band, I dont need you other 3
Maybe Im wrong ?
The McCartney II cover is ok but his face is too big on it for me, and we already know what he looks like, Id have preferred an abstract photo or artwork like McCartney I, John put a big picture of himself on Imagine but he made it hazy with clouds, more intriguing more thoughtful, I though that was much better than McCartney II, also Paul is pulling a silly face which sorta says he's not serious about it all..
Flaming Pie & Chaos are the best covers for me. I can look at them for a while
NEW is lousy imo. Im assuming Paul has the final say on all this, as a painter himself I would have expected him to create a nice painting or something more interesting, like the painting on Love Forever Changes or a sketch of something interesting
Just my opinions :-*

Hi Mr Mustard
Yes I like Tug of war also, it has some interesting shapes & colours, its funny isnt it what we like and dont like
I always liked when they made album covers from original paintings, ie they would commission an artist, they did this a lot in the 70's when cheap shots of 'faces' grew tired, there was some fantastic cover art original paintings from bands like Moody Blues, Caravan, PFM, Yes, and loads of others

Sorry, Kev.

He's emphasizing the fact that he's wearing shoes. ;)

I like that picture! The expression on his face is priceless, as if to say "Now, why don't you like this album?"
-
Sorry, Kev.
Ill have you clearing the top paddock out if your not careful Baz ;D
-
At least he didn't have the 70s porn star moustache covers like George did on George Harrison and Somewhere in England.
-
Yeah! What was with that moustache anyway?!

HaHa
Yes and Paul portraits a great prisoner on that Band On The Run cover
how many criminals has Princess Di hairstyles ha2ha
Only James Coburn & Christopher Lee looked in any way credible

I thought you didn't want to include Wings covers. ha2ha

Yeah! What was with that moustache anyway?!
God knows what most men were thinking with their mos back in the 70s. Still, George Harrison (the album) has to take the cake. Moustache AND perm

His best album is 'McCartney' and , whadya know!, it's the one with the best front cover, back cover, photographs, graphic design and typography.
Also, and this is often lost over the years with all the CD reissues, the LP records in the 50s, 60s and very early 1970s were much better made than after the early 1970s due to the recycling of vinyl after the Oil Crisis, and the general naffness of printing/design as the decade lumbered on.
And 'McCartney' still incorporates that sheen of plastic on the cover that made The Beatles LPs so attractive, and certainly seems to have been lost by the time of 'Wild Life' in 1971.

Actually I rather like those "big face" covers. Each Beatle did at least one as a solo artist and they kinda chime with their stereotyped respective personalities...
John the dreamy thinker, Paul the showbiz ham, Ringo the playful big kid and George, the introspective gardener....

This post got me thinking Mr M
(besides only just realizing that Johns glasses are crooked)
with the White Album you got 4 separate pictures glossy portraits of them
NOT pictured as a group
Hmm...

Ironically, this is the same face I make when I listen to McCartney 2
