Thought I'd post up all the links I'd seen around here and elsewhere regarding Beatles. Thought it might make a nice drop-in centre to have all the links in one place.
Could become a handy little resource tool for everyone eventually. Please add anything interesting you may find. Give reviews..tidy it up a bit etc, etc. ;)

"A demon idol-- so unleash my arm."
This is BRILLIANT! I would never in a hundred years have come up with some of these phrases. And neither would you- if you listen to the thing without the words "deciphered" for you. (As I did for part of this as I wrote this reply). I especially like the hard cuts in the middle of a phrase. So very natural... ;)
Truly, the Beatles were subtle and devious deceivers. *gives them all some marzipan, as that appears to be all they need..."
I'm glad you posted the Paris show. I adored the whole thing. What fantastic energy, from band and audience! Cheers.

What is the ID? Sorry to be thick, but I can only see: URL and Embed. Neither work.

No worries. A Youtube url-link usually looks like this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pUwpeMpwWdY
The ID part of this is pUwpeMpwWdY. If you put that between this youtube-things it should be working.

Well said, BM! Thank you, The End!
I like that the YouTube code shows the window. Many people post links to YouTube with no more explanation than, "This is neat!" and some URL. I don't usually click on a blind URL because I have no idea if I'm even interested in what someone else thought was neat (or I might have already seen it). The YouTube code gives me a glimpse of the clip so I can more easily tell what's in there, if the poster neglected to tell me. So, thanks again!

McCartney was well known for his excellent unprepared speeches ;)
I knew it ... but it's great to see these few seconds a-gain :) ... the funniest moment are the last 3 seconds ... John was a good clown ;D ... I know that he didn't like the word (he used it on I'm A Loser and he said it so):
"' I'm A Loser '. Is me in my Dylan period, because the word 'clown' is in it. I objected to the word clown, because that was artsy-fartsy, but Dylan had used it, so I thought it was all right, and it rhymed with whatever I was doing."
from here: http://mysite.wanadoo-members.co.uk/johnlennon/page4.html
... but in one of his interviews (by Bed-in time ... 1969 surely) he said that he prefered to be considered a clown more than a "serious" pacifist because of the leg-end of the guns (Martin Luther King was murdered recently, y'know) :-/ ...

Interesting because George is handed his first 12 string Rick, I believe, and about 3:20 into it, they are asked about starting their own record label, and John sez they'd never start their own label because it's too much trouble, as they'd find out 3 years later.

the best vid i ever saw at youtube was shout from ready steady go....
I've got a VCR of one of their Ready Steady Go performances, and it looked to me like it was mimed ... John even made an embarrassed face once when his vocal timing was particularly off.
Does anyone know if these were mimed, or maybe there were a few RSG sessions with some live and some not? Can't remember if Shout was on my VCR ...

Yes, they always mimed to there records on Ready Steady Go.
I think artist actually played live as the show progressed on.

They were all mimed!
-
Shout wasn't performed on RSG, it was for a show called Around The Beatles. They mimed all their performances in Around The Beatles having pre-taped them 9 days prior.
Songs performed in Around The Beatles:
Twist And Shout
Roll Over Beethoven
I Wanna Be Your Man
Long Tall Sally
Can't Buy Me Love
Medley of hits: Love Me Do/Please Please Me/From Me To You/She Loves You/I Want To Hold Your Hand
Shout
It is from the same show that the famous Shakespearean sketch (excerpt from A Midsummer Night's Dream) was performed.

Thanks! I used to have the Shakespearean sketch on a tape. Good to see it again.

And here's "Shout" (this should actually be called "Shout pt.2" as they are performing the version that appeared on the B-side of The Isley Brother's "Shout pt.1").
This is longer than the version that appeared on Anthology - George's part is a couple of bars longer.

The press conference from '66 right before Candlestick Park. I thought I had seen the whole thing, but there's at least a half hour more here that I never did! I love when Paul's mic falls apart and he's trying to fix if for like a minute and then he looks at George who fixes it in three seconds. Ha. I think this is my favorite press conference because they're all so honest and not at all cuddly. They really do get asked some STUPID questions! To Paul: "What time of day do you prefer to write your tunes?" Paul: "What time of day? Certainly daytime anyway....oh and night time! Certainly something like that. Just anytime really. ANYtime!" What a lame question!!!

Hey, couldja tell me how??? The converting thing I mean.
and other sites e.g. Zippy Videos, Google Video and stuff like that. I found it quite handy to know and already downloaded a few vids. It works quite good.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Here's a guide to download, play and convert videos from YouTube.
Locate the video at YouTube by searching. Copy the link of the file. Go to www.keepvid.com and paste the link on the box provided. Click the download button. You get the download link. Right click and do 'save target as' for Internet Explorer or 'save link as' for Firefox. You can also paste the download link on to your download manager.
Once the file is downloaded, you'll see the extension is .flv (Flash video file). These files can be played on several players. I recommed the free FLV player http://www.martijndevisser.com/blog...-player-updated
The files can also be converted to your favourite video format. Download the free (actually shareware but as good as free) CinemaForge from here http://www.mediaforge.com/wrapfactory-video.aspx
Converting is quite easy. Select the file, the output format and specify the parameters (frame rate, audio quality etc) and your work is done.

The Beatles On Family Guy
http://youtube.com/watch?v=hUieHhMM-cU
Poor Ringo! Beatles references occasionally come up on Family Guy. They did a really tasteless George one and a pretty funny Lennon one. This one was cute. I wonder if there's a picture of them wearing those outfits. For some reason the clothing looks familiar.
-
I love Family Guy, one of the best things on tv i've seen recently!
there's a few refrences to Monty Python as well in the series! ;D

I loved Johnny Carson BIG TIME...but yeah, J&P didnt fit right on that show..it was too "square" for them. They were pushing the budding Apple Corps at the time, but I really dont think TTS was the correct venue. Cavett was more their speed...Harrison was on there a lot.

This isn't example a Beatles video but hey it is on youtube and perhaps isn't worth its own thread. It probably has a mention somewhere on the boards already too, but I couldn't see it anywhere. Just the Beatles spoof clip from the film 'Walk Hard'. I thought it was pretty funny :)

Could someone give me the background of all these videos? Were they all recorded on May 19 and 20? Looking at the history section, it seems that they appeared live at many of these shows and mimed the songs while at others they just send in the performance. Could someone tell me which video corresponds to what show and when it was recorded. I'm confused if some were performed or simply recorded days beforehand.
-
It's hysterical what you find on youtube. Here like a 5 second video with no sound of John and Paul hugging. It's had over 16,000 views! That just cracks me up for some reason. I'd like to know where they are though and what's going on. Guess they received an award of some kind or something.

Yes he does call him a poof!
Sod: a section cut or torn from the surface of grassland, containing the matted roots of grass.
Sod: slang, for instance: 'sod off!', or, 'you stupid sod'. Not considered to be very rude.

Is the Peter Sellers one where they start off talking about Acapulco Gold or something? I never knew this existed! My God I can only imagine what else is out there that I haven't seen. I was all excited because I thought I was going to get to finally hear Peter's actual voice, but he's doing an American accent! What's that about?? What's even going on in the first place? That guy's a mystery.
And what on earth is John doing at the end? Rehearsing lines? I'm lost. ??)

Awww! That's adorable. John comparing football to rugby. And of course Cosell HAD to ask him the question. As everybody did in the seventies. He handled it all so well. He comes off so much more genuine than Macca who's always with the thumbs up, yeahhh thing. But then, maybe that's the real Macca. In which case, genuine. :-/

Is George addled in this one? He sounds fairly incoherent, apparently not able to put any words together in a meaningful fashion. Poor George Martin, having to respond in some civil way without sounding patronizing. Or can anyone else actually make a complete sentence out of what George is saying?

Paul singing "Yesterday" during the mid-Sixties--I just love it seeing him perform this song live.
In this clip he seems to have streaks of moisture running down his cheeks. I can't really decide if it's because he's sweating or crying...but I think he's crying. It's such a sad song and he was probably having problems with Jane Asher at that time. Does anyone else have an opinion?
-
^That'll definitely be sweat caused by the studio lights.
-
no wasn't paul a cry baby???i remember he cried over anything...he cried when old yellar died... ;D

For some reason when I click on the link I get Helter Skelter and not the Paul interview. Which now I'm very curious to see! Anyway, Paul comes off pretty good in the doc interview. He knew what he was talking about. "Pop music is the classical music of now." I agree.
-
no i am saying that the paul interveiw in your clip is filmed the same time as the clips of him playing...look at 1:13...that is the same shirt that he has on in your interview...someone dissected a film...

Do bands even sit around and do stuff like that anymore? A lot of creativity came out of things like them just messing around. And most everything they touched was genius. I wonder what a typical recording session sounds like for bands nowadays. They're probably not even in the same room half the time and the other half the computer is doing all the work. Why don't they take a cue from the Beatles. I mean, they obviously hit on the PERFECT formula.

-

Yes they do! Well, in my experience they do, anyway. Lots of jams, mockery, unfinished riffs and lyrics all get thrown around, bounced around and eventually compiled into something like songs. The organic creative process. Jolly good stuff!

That Shakespeare video is from my YouTube channel. I only have 11 Beatles videos posted. I have more but don't to keep duplicating what's already on YouTube.
My Rain video has been watched 1,762,378 times, which really surprises me! It's a great song but not as well-known as some of their other tunes. Everyone seems to love it though!
I hope this doesn't mean videos I have uploaded 8)
I just can't help laughing, oh, darling John ;D (although Ringo's lion is not less hilarious :o)

The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, Dusty Springfield and others accept their awards at the NME show. The Stones appear at about 6:45 and The Beatles at about 7:25:

I love the Midsummer Night's Dream skit! :)
They were all cute in that one! George the man in the moon, Paul Pyramus ("ThuHISuhBEE!"), John Thisbe ("SHADDAP!"), and Ringo the Lion.
Ringo's lion is so cute!
"Then know that I, one Ringo the drummer, am...for if I was really a lion, I wouldn't be making all the money I am TODAY, WOULD I?"
Hilarious!

I can't believe I got teary-eyed while watching corporate-sponsored karaoke.
-
Yeah that was special! I thought it was going to be 'Imagine' at first. The great thing is most of those young kids seemed to know the words anyway!
-
Aw, how cute! I'm more impressed that they knew the tune, as the words were projected. The little kid near the beginning with the mic was too cute for words.
-
Great song! 8)

I'll have a search! By the way, wasn't Shout recorded in April 1964?
-
I know it was performed in Around the Beatles on the 27 April 1964, but I worked off the UK release dates I got from an Apple site. Some may be wrong I know that after I had long finished the DVD, I noticed some spelling mistakes too, but it was much to late then to start over.
Maybe in Version 3.
DarMok. ;) ;) ;D

^ I love those vids! It's like George and Ringo, towards the end, only care about the camera. John was looking very skinny... and was it just me or was Yoko in every damn shot John was? I guess neither of them had ever heard the term 'personal space.' ha2ha
-
^yeah that's the way it seemed. I like these videos a lot, there are a lot of extra stuff I've never seen before and it makes me happy!! A lot more Ringo and George than in the final film! ;D
And yeah. the Yoko thing annoys me, on this one video the camera was only on them, annoying much?
-
^ That's one of the downfalls of John being one of the more famous Beatles. They'll get him on camera, and then BOOM - there's Yoko. >:(
My favorite kind of videos are the ones with mass amounts of Ringo or George. I'm always searching Youtube for ones I haven't seen. ;D
-
^Ditto, I wish there were more Ringo & George videos! That would make me very happy!! :D
-
Another cool video from Let It Be. I never could hear what Ringo & George were saying @ 4:57, and now that I can it's too adorable. I love how cute they are together all the time! ;D

Good GOD! Those poor drums, I thought Ringo was going to pound them into the ground. I bet he was imagining they were Yoko. ha2ha What made them (John and Yoko) think that was a good idea? I mean, that sounded horrible!

hmmm... good question.
And I'll bet he was imagining that! ha2ha
-
Agreed, I don't think I've ever seen Ringo go at his kit like that. An exercise in anger management, maybe?
I also thought Paul holding his bass up to the amp was pretty funny. He looked a little pained, like he was trying to get it to go louder. :P

I'd never heard them before (with my luck everyone else will have). Could listen to it all day though. :P
-
^I posted those in my mailbox a while back, aren't they just hilariously good? ;D I love them. I like the Ringo bit where the interviewer is questioning him and he's all "You know me, you know where I'm from!" lol so good!! ;)
-
Ahh, rats. Oh well, it never hurts to post the good stuff twice, I guess.
I loved George and his "I forgot to remember to forget," bit. But think on the whole Ringo had the funniest bits. :)
-
The Beatles must have felt they were in some alternate universe when Yoko began sitting in on their sessions.
At the end of that one clip, she's denigrating the Beatles to John, downplaying their importance.
-

Damn! Why did Yoko have to be "singing" (if you can call it that), that was actually a really awesome instrumental jam, I've never heard The Beatles improvise like that before. It reminds me of the number "Whole Lotta Yoko" from The Rolling Stones Rock and Roll Circus, would've been so much better without her.
-
A whole lotta things would be better without Yoko. ;D
BRRRACKETS. ha2ha
-
^ that's my new favorite word LOL ha2ha

^ Mine too. I've been saying all day, and my mom was like 'What the hell are you saying to me?' ha2ha

I don't know why but I'm really into the Beatles "Let it Be" period right now. It's strange, but it could be because I've found all this neat footage that I had never seen before. ;)
Here's another one, I like the beginning part, mostly when George and Ringo come into it when they're talking about playing on the roof. I think they are both really cute, George doesn't want to and Ringo does it's just funny. And Ringo's laugh is to die for! ha2ha And I also like watching Ringo's expressions when he's behind Paul during the Besame Mucho bit. ;)

Nice, thanks, borandy! At the beginnng, do you think John even knows Paul is there as he does a classic Paul-prattle? Or maybe he thinks Paul is some gigantic green bug. He just stares at Paul for the full monologue, and doesn't say a word!
-

You're Welcome Alexis! I don't know, that whole bit is quite strange! lol He just sits there obviously annoyed with Paul. I'm sure he was just tired of listening to his speel over and over. Or maybe he didn't like the fact that they were being filmed all the time? I don't really know, but it's really interesting to watch I think.

BreedofRandy: I'm loving these vids you're putting up! In that one, at 4:57 you say you can finally hear what George and Ringo are saying, I hear "Hi, George" then George say "Sorry I'm a bit late" and I can't quite catch the rest. What else does George say? But you're right, those two are adorable together!!

I can't make it out, it almost sounds like two voices to me, it's strange. I have played it over and over and I still can't exactly make it out. It almost sounds like he says either "I fell asleep again." or "John's late again." I can't quite make that bit out either, which made me mad. lol I'll try asking some other people on Youtube. ;) But true they are adorable! ;D
-
Thanks for the response! I'll keep trying to make it out, too! You're right, it's almost like someone was talking over George at the time.
When they lean heads together and smile at the camera, it reminds me of when they did that on the train for the First US Visit.

Yeah no problem! I like trying to figure these kind of things out! lol Must be part of my obsessive tendencies. ;D I know it does sound like two people. I wonder if that's Ringo talking or what? I now wish I could turn on subtitles. ha2ha
And you're right, it does look like that scene from the First US Visit! Awww, how sweet! I love that part too!

Haha that is something I have in common with Paul. I tend to just talk, talk, talk and never realize when people are getting bored with me.
-

On the other hand John could have just been thinking about his next drug hit. He was doing some serious drugs at this time. So less boredom than just plain apathy.

Ok this little part in the Anthology always makes me smile. I was thinking about where did I see this, and then what do you know I found it just now! ;) I love it, John and Ringo's faces are so adorable when the little girl jumps onto John's lap. It's uber sweetness! ;D @ 1:40!

It was a cheesy movie, but there were some parts I enjoyed.

That was cute! The really cool thing about The Beatles is that aside from the great music, there's the effect that they had on society. It's almost as enjoyable to see that as it is to listen to the music. Thanks for sharing.

You're welcome, and I completely agree. :)
Here's another one that's a documentary called Beatlemania. There's seven parts to it total on Youtube posted by the user maccalennon, and this is part one. It's a "documentary about Beatles fans young and old." You'll see the beginning and swear for a sec that it's 1964 with the way the fans are acting. :) The whole thing is very interesting. Enjoy. :)

I never gave much thought to the fact that it may have taken kids a while to embrace the changes that The Beatles made to their image over the years. I always thought that if they did something new everyone was all over it but I guess that wasn't always the case:

Two of the blondes said that. But American Bandstand was for the dancing crowd. If they couldn't dance to it, it was "weird." I guess that's why The Dave Clark Five's Over And Over was played on AB for over two years. They were able to dance to that.
The good shows were Hullabaloo, Hollywood A Go Go and Shindig!

Yeah, he looks at Ringo, then the camera, Ringo, camera, Ringo, camera, camera. I find it amusing. LOL If they were kids it would likely end with Ringo screaming, "Stop looking at me!!"

This is going into the Beatles History thread but for those who can't bear to wade through everything there I'm putting it here too. It's a nice compilation of interviews from the Australian tour, starting with Ringo in Los Angeles on June 13, 1964. There's some amazing footage there. Another highlight is the footage of the interview with Ringo and Brian at the Mascot Airport in Sydney the following day. Brian talks about seeing the Beatles for the first time at the Cavern, among other things. They look a little ghostly but it's still great!

This video makes me laugh. It's part of a BBC show from 1963 called "The Mersey Sound". It's a live performance but the audience was edited in from their previous night's performance. That's great! I always thought She Loves You was one of the best early songs. Right up there with all the other greats!
:) I think so too I always liked She Loves You even better than I Want To Hold Your Hand although that is great too.And it's amazing that The Beatles sounded as good as they did live on the very primitive limited sound systems they had at the time,George Harrison says in The Beatles Anthology video series that special 100 watt amplifiers were made for their August 1965 Shea stadium concerts and that they went up from the only 30 watts they had before. And they had no feedback monitors so they couldn't even hear themselves singing and playing, but they amazingly sang and played in sync with each other anyway. But they were so great that they would have even sounded good playing out of a cave! No one could have sounded great though on those sound systems,it was impossible.
And I always loved this very early John song written and recorded in 1962 Ask Me Why.
I have always loved this great beautiful song written by John, with such typical beautiful melodies and harmonies John and Paul usually wrote, and John's usual beautiful singing voice. And this was amazingly recorded in 1962 on only two track tape! with such limited, primitive recording technology but it of course still sounds great.Except I hate mono it's limited sounding and only makes their already limited recording technology sound even more limited.I tried to find the stereo version of this song on here but I couldn't find it on youtube.
Here university of Pennsylvania musicologist Alan W.Pollack who did an 11 year extensive analysis of every one of the 200 Beatles songs, analyzes Ask Me Why and explains that it's structurally complex.
