Picture discs
« on: July 14, 2012, 07:22:10 PM »

Which picture discs do you have, Snoop?

I wish I bought a few when they were released.  I remember standing in the aisle of the record shop gazing at them.

Here the titles of my collection:

- "The Gospel according to: The Beatles" (Interview, picture of the Beatles in Washington)
- 2 x "Please, please me" (one album cover and one with another picture)
- "live in Milan" (Italian)
- "Les Beatles" (France, Beatles picture when they were in France with sandwiches)
- "Golden Greates Hits"
- 2 "Help" (one with picture with Beatles on the beach and one with another picture)
- "Greatest Hits" (picture of the Beatles dressed in fur-coats)
- "Abbey Road (album cover)
- "Timeless" (picture of the Beatles dressed like Matadors, when they were in Spain)
- "Les plus grand succès" (France, picture of the Beatles sitting on horses)
- "With the Beatles"
- "A hard Day's Night"
- "Sgt. Pepper" (album cover)
- "The Beatles Volume 2" (Mexican label)
- "Los Beatles Primero" (Italian)
- "Timeless II" (Japanese label)

All discs are in colour  :); I bought them from the French online-seller http://www.priceminister.com/

I wish I could post some picture of them, but I don't know how to download them...  roll:)

Picture discs were popular here in the United States in the late 70s and early 80s, Snoopy.  Some of the picture albums in your collection are displayed in this website:

http://mypicturediscs.com/#/the-beatles/4538106557

As I mentioned, I stood there for the longest time gazing at those beautiful picture discs on the shelf.  This is the one I wanted the most...

I don't know why I didn't buy it.  When I returned the following week, they were all sold out so I bought this...

I paid attention to the label and never played my LP.     ;D

Oooh, that's too bad that you didn't get this Sgt-Pepper-disc; looks very special indeed ! Was it too expensive for you to buy then ? Mind you, the Steve Miller's Band-disc with the pegasus is beautiful as well  8)

Yes, picture-discs were still popular in the early 80's. I remember when I was in London, you could see them quite often in record-stores. I regret too that I haven't bought some of them; would have been much cheaper than now.

Thank's for the link ! Aaargh, the only picture-disc I'd be interested in, is apparantly not for sale...  :(

There were several picture discs on the racks that day.  I don't remember them being terribly expensive.  I figured the Sgt. Pepper album would be around the next time I visited the store.  I was wrong.

The fourth picture-disc on the first line "Conquera America" with blue background, you know which one I mean ?

It looks like a private page, isn't it ? Not every disc is for sale I think...

Oh, and sorry for the late answer  ;)

Yes, they're pictures of a private collection of picture discs.

A fine source for old LPs and picture discs is Music Stack.  I've ordered a few old LPs using their website and was very pleased.

There's a Conquer America picture disc listed right now at $30 USD:  http://www.musicstack.com/item/67709739

I have a Sgt Pepper picture disc, but was once told it was a reprint. I haven't got a clue to be honest.

I agree!  That's a nice collection of picture discs you have there, Snoop.

Now, if only I bought the Sgt Pepper picture disc when I had the chance.....oh well.

I don't even have a turntable, but I would love to get my hands on some picture discs.

Snoopy, you have my favorite, A Collection Of Beatles Oldies.  That is so cool looking! ;yes
