If you could be any musician apart from John, Paul, George or Ringo, who would it be and why?
This one is easy fro me right now...I'd say Billy Preston for all the people he's worked with and the fact he sat and played quite a lot with The Beatles. ;)
Any thoughts anyone?

^ A toughie. All the fun ones died too young.
Neil Young I think. Just for trhe journey he's been on, hangs out with good people (or at least used to) and made good music.
-
Keith Richards....he is the ultimate rock & roll rebel with classic raunchy riffs which define the Stones but I wouldn't have his drug & alcohol habit.
-
Daryl Steurmer from Genesis/Phil Collins. His music is heard every day on countless radio stations, he has played before royalty and at the largest venues in the world, and he can come home to Milwaukee and be totally anonymous here or anywhere. Its the best of all worlds, and a super fine guitar player on top of it.
-
jim morrison. he kicked ass.
-
If we're talking about musicians being alive,,,,Steve Gadd or Hal Blaine (it cant be bad being associated with 100 or so number one songs).
If any and it couldnt be a Beatle,,,,,give me Buddy Rich just for his skill alone.
-
Nice one guys....Some interestimg stuff. Like all your interpretations. ;)
Gadd in particular. Would be nice to know the recordings you been on and not be recognised...makes me think of Carol Kaye. The motown bassist.
-
Peter Gabriel
I love every second of music he made with Genesis and the lyrics he wrote.
I love his voice and how unique it is. He can convey emotion through his voice like few others can.
He has had a near perfect solo career that has allowed him to be commercially and financially successful without having to sacrifice his musical principles or vision.

Keith Moon. Just cuz he looked liked he was always having so much f-ing fun! Or Jim Morrison cuz he was just cool. Maybe Marianne Faithful cuz she got to date Mick Jagger and hang out with the Beatles. ;D

Good choice, maybe you could live a healthier version of his life and keep him around longer than he was...I still can't believe he died so young...yet looked so old. Sad...
-
Yeah, I've never seen such a dramatic change in looks as in him. I mean, even Keith Richards didn't change overnight and he still looks sort of the same. Moon looked like a completely different person. Which goes to show you how much he abused his body. Bummer, cuz he was so great.
-
uhh...very hard, probably Clapton
-
Hendrix.....cos then i would just walk into any room where there were guitar players and go "I own you".
-
Elliott Smith.
-
Brian Wilson during the making of Pet Sounds.
-
i would be YOKO...because then everyone would hate me but i wouldn't care.....

Gilmour, I love his guitar solos!!!!!!!!!!!!
-
Musician? Hmmm..someone already mentioned this before but I'd like to be a member of Phil Spector's Wrecking Crew (with Hal Blaine, Ray Pohlman, Carol Kaye, Tommy Morgan, Frankie Capp, etc...)
-
Hal Blaine... Damn... That guy played on literally HUNDREDS of hit singles.
-
It would have to be Chet Atkins not only only a phenominal guitarist, but produced for literally anybody that was anybody. He also played on thousands of recordings from the 1940s to the 1990s in all types of music. A career without equal :).
-
Hal Blaine... Damn... That guy played on literally HUNDREDS of hit singles.
Your right Biscuit! Us drummers have a saying,,,,"If you listened to the radio in the 60's to early 70's, the drummer on 50% of the songs was Hal Blaine, the other 40% was Gary Chester, and the remainding 10% was Ringo."
-
Hal Blaine... Damn... That guy played on literally HUNDREDS of hit singles.
Just to play tambourine, triangle, or maracas or even just clap my hands alongside him playing the drums is one of my greatest dreams. Plus he has a great sense of humor.
-
Nice guys, real interesting stuff, keep em coming!!! ;)
-
i would be YOKO...because then everyone would hate me but i wouldn't care.....
I thought the topic said "If you could be any MUSICIAN" Ok pc, what ever floats your boat...
For me, I would say Stevie Ray Vaughn or Eric Clapton, or BB King.....I can't decide....

I think i would like to be Nick Drake , would like to be able to play acoustic guitar like he could .
-
I've never literally wanted to be any musician other than myself but if I could play Harmonica half as well as "Sonny Boy" Williamson, Guitar half as well as Richard Thompson, Ukelele half as well as Jake Shimabukuro & Tin Whistle half as well as Paddy Moloney I'd be decidedly more than merely delighted.
-
Definitely Richard Thompson. But if I could be allowed to change sex I'll be percussionist Marilyn Mazur.
-
"Youth", because he gets to hang out and record/produce with Paul McCartney. "Sigh".
-
Brian May. I love his music, and I find him to be a very interesting, intelligent person.
-
Hendrix if he'd lived longer
so Clapton.
-
I've alwqays idolised musicians way too much i reckon going through phases of wanting to look and sound like some of them, and its probs the reason a lot of my music recordings sound completely different from each other.
in order since i first got into music
Damon Albarn - i wanted to be just like him jumped about with fredd perry shirts and had the same hair..... then i picked up the guitar and wanted to be like...
Graham Coxon - also from Blur and one of my early influences on my guitar playing and still is.
John Frusciante - Love his playing and the emotion he puts into his playing, he is also a great person esp after coming through what he had too.
Paul McCartney - Just too cool, big influence on my writing, makes me wanna put my guitar down and play some bass
Johnny Marr/Morrisey - same reasons as the blur guys
Brian Wilson - Same reason as Macca plus love his falsetto
-
Klaus Voorman, and find 5 english young men play damn rock and roll in a night club in the Reeperbahn
