"A Hard Day's Night" - The Train Scene
« on: June 09, 2012, 04:07:44 PM »

In interviews, Richard Lester (the director) has expressed the opinion that he wishes he could have reshot most of the scene on the train, but doesn't elaborate.

My question: Does anyone else think the Beatles sucked as amateur actors in the train scenes, especially in the compartment scene? Ringo (arguably the best actor of the Fabs), with his line: "Well, if he's your grandfather, who knows", followed by a fake laugh. Worst delivered line in the entire film. Paul seemed to try too hard with his lines and body language reactions. George had little to do in the scene, while John was just being John (snorting "Coke" in the scene).

Yet, in later scenes, they performed about as well as can be expected from newbies.

Since AHDN was filmed pretty much in sequence, did Lester have a little chat with the Lads after Day One of shooting? Anybody know?
