Title: Wonderful Christmas Time or Happy Xmas (War Is Over)
Post by: Jema on August 01, 2011, 12:27:21 AM
My favorite from these songs are Wonderful Christmas Time because I really like the way it sounds and it reminds me of Christmas.I also really love Happy Xmas (War Is Over) because I think it's really pretty and I really like the way that John and Yoko's voices sound in it.Overall it's just a beautiful song.Which one do you like better?

Much prefer the Lennon one myself, I think Pauls is quite poor

I think John's contribution to the holiday season is better too.

My vote goes to "Happy Xmas (War Is Over)" -- not only do I simply like the song better, but I can never get that darn refrain from "Wonderful Christmastime" out of my head!!!

(arrrrrgggggghhhhhhhh.............)  ;)

I had a desktop theme that played that line with "simply having a" ahead of it when my computer booted up and I had to get rid of it for that very reason!

They ARE both very good I think, but I do prefer John & Yoko's "Happy Xmas (War Is Over)".

Think what you like but I even like George's New Year "Ding Dong Ding Dong" from the very end of '74 :o ;)

But I must admit I struggle with Ringo's "I Wanna Be Santa Claus"  ;sorry

I choose Happy Xmas because of the meaning and the beautiful melody  ;yes plus I always listen to it every Christmas with my favorite aunt, she's an old hippie and loves John  ;D

I voted for "Wonderful Christmas", but I think they're both good songs. I also like The Beatles' "Chrstmas Time (Is Here Again)".

An earlier interpretation of Stewball, here performed by Woody Guthrie, differed a bit...

Paul's is total manure. John's is one of the best Xmas songs of all time by anyone.

John's.

The opening (after their whispering) is amazing with the the "so this is Christmas?" line, sets the mood for the entire song

John's song is far better in my opinion.

What about this "I Saw Her Standing There"-like version of "Rockin' Around The Christmas Tree"?

Me too :) ! Part of the reason is because I remember hearing it when I was younger and I loved it even when I didn't know who Paul was ha2ha Also, speaking of the song, I really want to show you this video of Peter Serafinowicz doing an impression of Paul and he does a parody of the song: Ringo Remembers Christmas 1979 (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cW1ou7SH3is#)

You've got good taste in music, Jema.   ;)

Part of the reason is because I remember hearing it when I was younger and I loved it even when I didn't know who Paul was ha2ha

That's the best reason I've seen so far!  Even better than the reason you gave when you started this thread!

Have a Wonderful Christmastime, Jema!

It says on Wiki that Paul McCartney has since said that he is now embarrassed about Wonderful Christmastime. I find that hard to believe.

That comment required verification.  I find it hard to believe too, especially seeing how much fun he has performing it live and grooving on the crowd's reaction...

And after two years.... The thread is awaken!

I chose War is Over. Probably because I know it more and it kind of has a bit more of a meaning and stuff. Paul's one is a bit silly and fun - which is great but yea there is not much to it for me

And now a year and a half later.....

"Happy Xmas (War Is Over)" is a classic, whereas "Wonderful Christmas Time" is just a nice diddly!

Both are quintessential Lennon and McCartney songs. They both nailed it.
