Any one have any tips on how to write music?
« on: May 05, 2006, 03:56:27 AM »

I'm forming a band. So far I got two people, Myself(bassist http://www.guitarhangar.com/guitars/images/rogue_vb100_fb.jpg) and my bro(Lead guitar http://media.zzounds.com/media/brand,zzounds/P_G310-EB-c52a88f98a7e0489794ec50134acce73.jpg). Right now we are looking for a drummer and maybe another guitarist. But anyways, I want to start writing my own music. I have a pretty good singing voice and would like to use to sing my songs that I've written. I have a few ideas of songs that I want to write about, but I have no clue on how to get started. I don't know if the words should rhyme and if I should come up with a sound with my bass and my bros guitar. Any tips on how I should form the song and set it up?

It sounds as if you have already written some songs so you've already got all the basics - so maybe it's just the arrangment you need some assistance with. Certainly the rest of your band should have some ideas for the arrangment. It's basically trial and error - you will find YOUR sound.

With regards to lyrics - most songs DO rhyme, but it's not a rule that they HAVE to.
Personally speaking, I have only written one song that doesn't rhyme and I didn't even realise it didn't rhyme until about a year after I'd written it!

Apple Beatle is your man - he's in 27.2 bands at the moment!
