Title: In the news tonight....
Post by: aspinall_lover on August 19, 2008, 11:12:27 PM
Watched national news just now and guess what's making a huge "comeback".....as if it NEVER left some of us............the vinyl LP is making a huge comeback with the younger generation.  This IS fantastic!!!!  The "LP" has never, ever left my collection of music.  Some of my best music is on "vinyl".  And a turntable has always and will forever be in my stereo set-up.  They're expecting sales of LP's to double this year.  What's y'all's thoughts on this.  I think it's super!!!!!

It's great, and actually it makes sense. People have mp3s when they're on the go now, and vinyl have the best sound (by a mile, the warmness is incomparable) so the CD has rather little to offer. In the UK many alternative artists now sell vinyls and they give free digital downloads with them, which is imo the best strategy atm

With you on this. Vinyl to save the industry. Nothing replaces putting on an album and placing the needle in anticipation. Hope it catches on. If I were to release, I'd certainly put out a 1st press on vinyl.

I'm so excited about this.  I want the "younger people" to know and hear the sound of the LP on the turntable.  "Dark Side of The Moon" by Pink Floyd is the ULTIMATE on a turntable.  And then I think the next best LP on the "table" is The Alan Parsons Project, "Tales of Mystery and Imagination....Edgar Allan Poe".....i.e......."The Raven"........I can blow my windows out at my house with that vinyl on the table............... 8)

I remember I was hanging out with my step cousin a year or so ago and asked if I could put on my record and she asked what a record was.  :-/

^^^^^^Duh??????  That's why I want the youth today to know the joys of an LP vinyl album.  I remember in my "pre-teens", I couldn't wait to go to the local record shop once a week and see what was new.  Album artwork was at the "BEST" back then............

Come on everyone!!!!!  Let's get behind this "album comeback" and support our local used record shops.  I may just have to visit my buddy, "Iggy", at his record shop this weekend............."the fever is on"........

I have noticed this for sometime now, I think its awesome!! I will buy some.  I have some from when I was a kid...I wish I still had all my dad's old albums.

^^^^^My dad's old albums are all "polka" music......."Polish" dance music.  But yes, I am so excited that "vinyl" is making a comeback.  Hey!!!!  Doesn't EVERYTHING make a comeback after so many years???  PLEASE!!!!!---NO 1980's-----But I'm having a "ball" with the 70's stuff that's out.  I love the bell-bottoms and platform shoes.  They are, and were, to die for..........
Now..............back to turntables and "vinyl".....................

Vinyl is not so good cause it gets scratched and the needle breaks... What is passe is passe.

All things must pass but vinyl is the inner light from where preserved audio pleasure began. It's what musicians made music for. :)

^ So do I  :)

We have a record shop, established in 1980 i think, and they stil sell and trade records. But I dont buy them since we have no record player. We used to have one, but with us moving around .... I got no idea where it is.

But I think its nice LPs are coming back! ... I'd love to get the feeling of what it was like...!

by the way, Dont DJs use vinyls?

^^^^^^I know what you mean by "warmness" in the sound of vinyl.  Nothing better than putting an old Beatles' record on the turntable and listening to the subtel "hisses and pops"............ahhhhhh........the good ol' days are coming back.......

Did any of you people see this or read this????  On my AOL news this morning, the British press talked to Heather Mills' former assistant and this "Elyzabeth" says Heather was a "pathological liar and the ultimate gold-digger".  Now, we all knew that now, didn't we????

Well, it's not terminal yet and you can bet there will be at least one more attempt to salvage a bill, but this is getting damned serious.  :-/

This could be McCain's Waterloo: not only is he the representative of the incumbent party whose president can't resolve what's rapidly becoming a gigantic mess, McCain himself made a fuss about coming back to Washington last week to help negotiate a bipartisan deal to address the financial crisis. He looks bad, his president looks powerless, and his party looks utterly incompetent.

And of course he'll try to tell you it's really all Barack Obama's fault.

^^^^^^^^I agree with you 100% on that comment.  They're gonna try and hang it all on Obama and he's just a "newby" in this race...............

Boehner just tried to blame Nancy Pelosi. (Those 133 Republicans who voted against the bill couldn't have had anything to do with it, eh, John?)

McCain just said something like "Senator Obama and his partners in Congress tried to infuse unnecessary partisanship into the process." Right on schedule.

Ideology. They're all free market guys who think any sort of government intervention in the economy or redistribution scheme is socialism. A lot of them have also been getting ****loads of emails from their voters telling them not to vote for any bailout package.

A large group of Republicans voted against it because they didn't think it was right for the little guy to pay the bill for the millionaire stock broker's greed and mistakes.

Makes sense to me, but they say that we (the little people) can either pay for the bailout with some/a lot of our savings, or not pay for the bail out and lose more/all of our savings when the US is forced to conduct business on the gold or barter system (eh, how many sheep for that one?).

I'm mad, but there is absolutely NOTHING I can do about it. No one even knows what to do. Kind of scared too ...

Canada actually, but I've been back and forth across the border so many times over the years that I have a hard time separating the two countries: I have to go over an ocean before I feel like I'm somewhere really different.  ;D

^^^^^That's cool Geoff.  And my hubby said that during the elections in November, he's voting AGAINST every incumbent on the ballot.  He doesn't care WHO it is, he's voting against every one.

I understand why he feels that way, but have a good look at who the other guys actually are: they may be no better, or in some cases worse. Look for the people who seem to be making some sort of sense, whoever they are, and vote for them. IMO, of course.  :)
