"Lost Gems"
« on: April 30, 2012, 10:22:22 PM »

Hi all,

I've been asked to write a weekly series of articles by RiffRaf (a rock n roll blog) on "Lost Gems".  We cover some great songs/bands that were skipped over or lost in the shuffle.

No one is being paid, no sponsors or anything like that. We’re just fans, writing about what we love… music.

This week’s band is “Los Shakers” the Uruguayan Beatles. Some of you may have heard them, but if you haven’t, man, are you going to love this. They copied everything, and I mean everything the Beatles did and inspired “Shakers-mania” in Latin America in the 60’s. Weirdly fascinating and fun for a Beatle fan, plus the songs - which they sing in English - are really catchy.

The influence the Fab Four had, is bigger than even any of us here realize.

Riffraf’s a pretty cool site. Check out the interview with Photographer Mick Rock (Bowie, Queen Album covers etc.), directed McCartney’s “My Love” video, he’s worked with everyone.

I hope you guys enjoy the series.

Best,
Jim

P.S. If you check it out and have any tidbits about Los Shakers, please let us know in the comments box. We’d love to hear from you.
