I feel your pain. Mine were into Jim Reeves and James Last. Mind you, I was heavily into Rolf Harris at the time.

I think the answer is quite obvious, Pink Floyd. They are awesome. Darkside of the Moon, Wish you were here, and The Wall lps are of legendary status. Nothing against Yes but they can't really compare to Pink Floyd.

I love both bands immensly. Pink Floyd are just my favorite band ever, hands down, no question, but I don't really like the comparison. They were both progressive rock bands but very, VERY different. Pink Floyd put more emphasis on the technological development whereas Yes were more interested in the classical elements. Of course, both bands touched on each territory, but you see what I mean, right?

Outside of that, I don't believe there to be a bassist better than Jon Anderson. And the vocal harmonies are angelic. They almost make me believe in Heaven.

I bet Chris Squire would disagree with that.   ;)

Squire's bass playing is a perfect match for Bill Bruford's drumming. Long Distance Runaround anyone? And actually, Squire can sound a bit like Jon Anderson when he sings.

Oh, drat! I used to know that, too. Shows how long it's been since I listened to Yes.

Pink Floyd for me. They're my favorite band after The Beatles. (thumbsup)
