I have noticed that most fans like the guitar solo from the single version on Let it Be. I must be in the minority of people who like the original guitar solo.

I just made myself a "perfect Let It Be" album with two sides, side one with songs from both Let It Be and Let It Be...Naked and side two with the full rooftop concert. Here's the song list :

Side One
01.Get Back (single version)
02.Don't Let Me Down (single version)
03.I've Got A Feeling (Naked version)
04.One After 909 (Naked version)
05.Dig A Pony (Naked version)
06.I Me Mine (Naked version)
07.Two Of Us (Naked version)
08.The Long and Winding Road (Naked version)
09.For You Blue (Naked version)
10.Across The Universe (Single wildlife version)
11.Let It Be (Let It Be version)

Side Two
The Rooftop Concert.

I tried to keep a specific order for the first 5 songs and as you can see, they are in the same order as played live on Side Two. I also asked a friend of mine to make a cover art for the album, and I called the project "Let It Get Back". I was just fooling around, but I kind of like listening to it.

I really like Let It Be the way it is, but if I could tweak it...

1. Two Of Us (album version, "I dig a pigmy" and all...)
2. Don't Let Me Down
3. I Me Mine (naked)
4. I've Got A Feeling (album)
5. Across The Universe (album version - the wildlife version is awful)

1. Let It Be (album version)
2. One After 909 (album)
3. The Long And Winding Road (from Anthology 3)
4. For You Blue (Naked)
5. Get Back (album version - can't beat John's comments at the end.)

Get Back from the naked album is the best one in my opinion. It´s shorter, without the jamming at the end. And John's comments at the end is not a part of the song.

Well, I love John's audition comments at the end of 'Get Back' not just because of the humor of it, but also because the irony - here we are at the very end of the last released Beatles studio album and John hopes they passed the audition. The Beatles ruled the world by this point, so it's a silly thing to say and IMO a perfect way to end an album.

And I sometimes think I'm just about the only person on earth who adores the album version of 'Let it Be' over the single version. George's guitar solo is just wonderful here.
Also, I think that the Naked version of 'The Long And Winding Road' is an inferior take - the one on Anthology 3 is better. I think it's the take of the album version, but without the Spector overdubs obviously. Paul's vocal is better on it.

And I could rant about how much I loathe the wildlife version of 'Across The Universe' on Past Masters, but it would take all day. The Let It Be album version and the Anthology 3 acoustic version are way better.

I agree with you there.

YES. Spector's work is underrated. Sure, the choir and orchestra on 'The Long And Winding Road' is a bit overkill, but his overdubs on 'Across The Universe' and 'I Me Mine' are wonderful.

i tend to disagree darling. the overproduction on I Me Mine just ruins the song compared to the harrison stripped down version, but it is one of my favorites. it takes you there. i won't comment on the across the universe thingie, each version is solid gold in my opinion.

I'll go with the naked versions of The long and winding road, I me mine (There is an acoustic guitar that shines out in this mix) and Across the Universe. The guitar solo in Let it Be from the original album is awesome, indeed, but there is something very emotional to the version from the (let it be) film, there is a different verse  in there too, so I'll go with that one. The rest are fine either way, I don't remember any significant differences between the mixes.

Happy Birthday "Let It Be".  Your 47 today and still look as fresh as if it was 1970!  icon_king
