I learned yesterday that George Harrisons girlfriend in the early sixties, Marie Guirron, was later to become Justin Haywards wife.

That's a good interview Bobber. Ta.

Hayward always comes across as a genuinely nice fellow on the few occasions I've heard him interviewed.

Two full concerts are now on YouTube...

The Moody Blues - "The Lost Performance" - Live at Taverne de L'Olympia - Paris - 1970

The Moody Blues: A Night At Red Rocks Live (1992)

Breathe deep the gathering gloom
Watch lights fade from every room
Bedsitter people look back and lament
Another day's useless energy is spent
Impassioned lovers wrestle as one
Lonely men cry for love and have none
The new mother picks up and suckles her son
Senior citizens wish they were young
Cold-hearted orb that rules the night
Removes the colours from our sight
Red is grey and yellow white
But we decide which is right
And which is an illusion

That's poetry always reminds me of how sad I was when Mike Pinder left The Moody Blues, he wrote that poetry and he wrote a lot of my favourite moody blues songs.

Mike wrote that? Interesting.  I always thought Graeme Edge was the poet.

Mike did write good stuff. He was a good foil to the more pop sensibilities of John Lodge and Justin Hayward. With Ray’s quirky contribution it gave the Moodies lots of dimensions.

This was just a Moodies B side but earned Mike an Ivor Novello award. Great pop song.

Love this

That’s a nice track. I can’t recall ever owning that album although at one point I did have a few of the Moodies solo projects. I see one of the tracks on it is Free as a Dove. I wonder if John had seen that one  ;)

There was another song where they did some spoken verse but I can't remember the album anymore.  And to make matters worse, I gave away most of my vinyl albums last year so I can't go back and look through them.

Anyway, I thought their 2nd (?) attempt at verse really stunk.  If I can figure out what record that was, I'll post it here.

I think the first few albums up to Seventh Sojourn all had some poetry. But I’d have to check to be sure.

Question

In 1970 we knew this was an anti-war song with a love song in it.  But I like how Fil Henley analyzes the song...

It’s remarkable how subjective music is. On the Threshold of a Dream is one of my favorite albums. While it’s true that it has a strong personal meaning for me I’d love it even without that. But I’ve never heard anything from the Moody Blues that I didn't love.

I see the Moodies (their remains anyway)have a new concert video out.  It’s a live version of Days of Future Past with an orchestra, I think from 2015. It has Jeremy Irons on video doing the poetry recitals. Both Justin and John sound in pretty good voice

I was listening to one of my favourite Moody Blues albums 7th Sojourn.
This one had an additional track called Island... I've never heard this track before certainly wasn't on the original album but I think it's absolutely beautiful.
This was the last of the core 7 albums that had Mike Pinder working on and contributing songs.
Although this is a Justin Hayward song and it is beautiful you can hear throughout Mikes influence especially with his Melotron, they worked together a lot on arrangements of moody blues songs and this is the reason why there sound change so much when he left.

I’ve never heard that either. It’s a really good tune. And yes Mike’s Mellotron is playing a big role

Beautiful, eerie track.
Quite unlike Justin, I really like it.

For anyone who's interested and has about 10 hours to spare you can watch the court case where Patrick Moraz sued The Moody Blues for $4million, as he claimed he was a full member of the band for 13 years, they say he was never a full member but a paid sideman.
I'm about half way in so far. It's very interesting watchin them all give evidence.

For some reason the vid doesnt come up from the link so just go to Youtube and do a search for..

The Moody Blues vs. Patrick Moraz - The Music Trial of the Century, it's in about 20 parts.
