John Lennon shirt. They were all out of the Beatles shirt I wanted.
But my John Lennon shirt is AWESOME! When I wear it, it looks like John signed my stomach.

Over the weekend, I used a gift card to buy the DVD of George Harrison's "Concert for Bangladesh."  My husband and I enjoyed it, and it was a thrill to see George stepping out of the shadows of Lennon & McCartney.  Ravi Shankar was also amazing!

Sigh...this is another sign of the economy's problems.  Yesterday I went to a large Borders just to browse around and discovered that this particular branch of the store was going out of business.  That was a shock to me because this branch has been around for at least a decade, if not more, but it was selling off everything.  (I knew Borders was having financial problems but never thought they would actually shut down some stores.)  Anyway, most merchandise was at least 40% off and the store was selling all its furniture and light fixtures too.

Anyway, after rooting around in its ravaged shelves, I picked up:

Fab Four FAQ book
John Lennon's "Imagine" album

Is the Fab Four FAQ book good?

I haven't been able to delve too deeply in this book yet, but so far it seems good.  Here are my impressions:

On one hand, some of the book's contents may be too basic for hardcore Beatles fans.  (For instance, it lists some "Paul is dead" clues and tells readers about "Yesterday"'s silly "scrambled egg" lyrics--things that any serious fan would already know.)

On the other hand, it also provides tidbits on more obscure Beatles facts, like brief information on the Beatles' opening acts (like Chris Montez), where Brian Epstein's home was (24 Chapel Street in Belgravia), and what all the Beatle children have been doing in their own lives.  (Well, almost all of the Beatles' kids.  They left out Heather, Paul's stepdaughter, possibly because she's not directly related to him.  Since he adopted and raised her, however, I don't think that's fair.)

If you enjoy reading about random Beatles trivia, then you may like this book.  Overall, it looks like a fun crash course through Beatles history and I can see its appeal for both buffs and beginners.  I know a lot about the Beatles, but this book showed me that there's still more to learn. :)

a book called McCartney

Sorry to bring up such an old post you made, Euan, but is that the book by Chris Salewicz?  If so, how did you like it?  Would you recommend it?
