Title: help withTommy Coming Home for guitar?
Post by: on February 11, 2009, 06:03:14 AM
I probably posted this in the wrong place

Hello everyone, I'm insanely fond of Sir Paulie's work with Elvis Costello, and have been trying to figure out the chords for one of their lesser-known, unreleased songs, Tommy's Coming Home.  I have most of the verse and chorus worked out, but I'm all wrong in the middle8.  Can anyone help me?

You'll see where I get stuck.  I hope the rest is all right.

Tommy's Coming Home
(mccartney/macmanus)

               G
... one two three four

        C                Em
She was counting out the window
       Am
of the outbound train
        G
All the poles of the telegraph
     C        Em
And the rock-a-bye rhythm
       Am
in the song of the rails
      G            C
Couldn't make the sweeper laugh

Bm            Em
Down down down so deep
Bm                 D
Down down drowning in his sleep
C      Am         G
Tommy's coming home again

      C               Em
And a hawk hovered high above
     Am
a skinny jackrabbit
G
pursued by a hungry fox
     C           Em
And a broker awoke her
     Am
from a fitful slumber
     G                 C
Then consulted his shares and his stocks

Bm            Em
Down down down they go
Bm                 D
Down down how he'll never know
C      Am         G
Tommy's coming home again
      C     Am         Em
And it's almost April Fools' Day

As he glanced on his paper looking through the veil
He could see that she was really upset
As she tucked back the ribbon in a velvet box
As he offered her a cigarette

Down down down she took a drag
Now he's covered in a flag
          Tommy's coming home again
And it's almost April Fools' Day

??????????????????/
G      C         G
Almost April Fools' Day
     C            G
And the joke's on everyone
C  Em/B           Am
He had that premonition
D7                  G
Only dead men dwell upon
??????????????????/

But how could he know that only twelve months later
She would wear her skirt up over her knee
And in the very same carriage she'd be      flattered with roses
And forget the tears of dignity

          Down down down they flow
          Now now now it just
          don't matter anymore
          Tommy's made it home again
When it was almost April Fools' Day

     Almost April Fools' Day
     And the joke's on everyone
     He had that premonition
     Only dead men dwell upon

Tommy's coming home again

Tommy's coming home again

Tommy's coming home

by Paul McCartney and D.P.A. MacManus

This song is officially unreleased but appears on the bootleg The McCartneyMacManus Collaboration.

I could try, but I don't know the song. Is there a link so that I can hear it?
