Tony Sheridan & Pete Best on French TV - 19 October 2011
« on: December 03, 2011, 06:42:23 PM »

Hi,
We, French fans, had decided months ago to celebrate with dignity the 50th anniversary of the My Bonnie single release, and so were lucky enough to welcome in Paris Tony Sheridan and Pete Best who gave a special concert at the Divan du Monde, a historical venue (built in 1809, near the Red Light district of Pigalle), which is known as the biggest of the small auditoriums in Paris. Tony and Pete, backed by the AfterBeat group (a Beatles tribute band), played in front of a full 200 on Tuesday 18 October, and then Tony gave his own concert on Thursday 20 October, backed by his own group (featuring Irish guitarist Dara McNamara).

Wednesday 19 October was a kind of day off for the music, but not for the media activities. Among the many interviews Pete and Tony gave on this occasion, one is particularly moving and touching, firstly because it’s not so often to see both of them together on a TV set, and secondly because after all these years, it seems that a bond was strengthened between them. As a result, the interview is pleasant to see, all the more that their analysis of the Hamburg phenomenon contains, in retrospect, some interesting remarks…

So, here’s the full 20 minute-interview as it was conducted by journalist Patrick Simonin on TV5 Monde in Paris on 19 October, and broadcast on 1st December 2011 – with the French translator voice-over (sorry…), but Best and Sheridan remain very understandable though.
Enjoy!

No, they didn't talk about the first fight they had in Hamburg in this special interview, but Tony did talk about it in other press interviews in the presence of Pete Best, and there was no problem, you know. Contrary to what some people believe, they both really give the impression that they have largely got over it after all these years, which is quite normal. There's a lot of friendship between them. Besides, if you listen carefully to the interview, you'll clearly hear Pete Best himself confirming what I'm saying (at 4:55)...

Just for your information, Tony is a long time friend of mine (since 1991). I've been to his place in Germany and I even know his family (thanks to him I also visited Astrid Kirchherr at her place in Hamburg in 1992). Moreover, I have interviewed him on many occasions for my book Fact and Fiction 1960-1962 which is regarded today as a must have by all specialists. So, after all this time I think I have a rather good knowledge of who is Tony Sheridan...

Not so "twit", you know.
