Evolution, revolution: Shirelles through the Beatles, to Smith, to The Greyhounds, to ...

The Shirelles start it off in 1961. Reached #8 on the Billboard Top 100 chart*.

The Beatles. Reached # 7 on the UK charts, and #67 on the Billboard Top 100 - in 1994 (according to wiki)!

What blows my mind is how much work The Beatles did to stay hot. They had this in their stage act by 1961 - the same year it came out in the States!

I love John's voice on this song, it reminds me of how he sings "To Know Her is to Love Her".

"Smith". Highest charting of this song, even higher than the Beatles - #5 on the Billboard Top 100!

For my money, some days I think this version could be better than The Beatles. Is this sacrilege?

The Carpenters did a version of this too, can't find it on youtube ...  :'(

Here are 2 modern versions. The first one (Maria Antonia) sounds like the Shirelles version ...

And this second one (Melissa Raper and the Greyhounds) sounds like they liked the Smith version better!

It came with Real Love if I'm correct. Could be Free As A Bird as well, I always mix those two up.

It was released as a single, taken from the BBC album.

Smiths version is my favorite. More soul in my opinion.
