I wish I owned more of Paul's albums but I don't. With so many of his CDs out of print its hard to get a hold of one.

I have to admit I haven't heard Venus & Mars yet but Venus & Mars/Rock Show, Magneto & Titanium Man & Letting Go are GREAT tracks.

Pauls stuff isnt really hard to get. Ebay does wonders. All of his stuff is usually there.

'Venus And Mars' is a good album, but I never considered it one of my favorites. 'Love In Song', 'Treat Her Gently', and 'Spirits Of Ancient Egypt' are probably my 3 favorites on the album.

your topics are mostly great but then you get angry and lose it...try to be more understanding.

My favorite Wings album, full of rockers and such. It's also choc full of potential Wings singles. I listen to Venus and Mars more than Band on the Run, I think its better for the inclusion of "Listen To What The Man Said." The segue between the said song into the final track "Treat Her Gently/Lonely Old People" is my favorite moment.

No idea. It's criminally underrated.

Well, all his albums post-BOTR are criminally underrated.

Amen. Talk about comedy/tragedy. I still get choked up listening to the latter. He should be playing that in concert.

This album is pretty darn good.

I think the first three songs are classics and LWTMS too.  I'm not wild about "You Gave Me the Answer" and "Magneto"--the former is too much in the "Your Mother Should Know" vein I never really liked; "Magneto" is weird, almost T-Rex lyric glam rock that seems like it should lead somewhere but doesn't (interesting idea, though).  "Medicine Jar" is pretty strong--an anti-drug written and sung by the guitarist Jimmy McCulloch (who died young, of something like a heart attack).  It shows that Paul was capable of generosity when his backup guys brought something to the table.  I like the layered guitar sounds on the album (VAM, particularly)--Denny and Jimmy were a good guitar combo.

1.Venus and Mars
2.Rock Show
3.Letting Go
4.You Gave Me the Answer
5.Love in Song
6.Magneto and Titanium Man
7.Venus and Mars (Reprise)
8.Spirits of Ancient Egypt
9.Call Me Back Again
10.Crossroads
11.Medicine Jar
12.Listen to What the Man Said
13.Treat Her Gently/Lonely Old People

"Magneto..." was about his love for comic books. "Medicine Jar" is sad irony at its finest because its about the perils of drugs and Jimmy died of an overdose, not a heart attack.

Sad.   I guess he went to the Medicine Jar one too many times.

Treat Her Gently/Lonely Old People is one Paul's trademark song. I like Letting Go.

I'm bumping this old thread, because I've listened to a lot of albums this summer too much. "Venus and Mars" is one of them. Better than "Band On The Run" in my opinion.Old school rockers combined with wonderful sweet pop songs.I think it works great as an album. My favourite songs here :

Venus and Mars - Rock Show
Magneto and Titanium Man
Spirits of Ancient Egypt
Call Me Back Again
Listen To What The Man Said - probably my favourite McCartney song right now.

Also, the passing sections between "Venus and Mars" and  "Rock Show", "Venus and Mars(reprise)" and "Spirits Of Ancient Egypt", "Listen To What The Man Said" and "Treat Her Gently/Lonely Old People" are worth mentioning. They're fantastic!

I also think "Crossroads Theme" may be unnecesary here. I think "Treat Her Gently-Lonely Old People" would've worked better as an album closer. But I find myself having this problem with albums pretty often.I've always thought that "John Lennon/Plastic Ono Band" would've been better ending with John's screams from "Mother" fading out...But anyway, they are both great albums just the way they are.

i like venus and mars but i find it a far better listen just once in a while.this make any sense?i kind of get bored after a couple of listens in quick succession, although i love 'magneto and titanium man',and also 'you gave me the answer'.the crossroads theme really takes me back to boring, boring teatimes in my childhood.that programme was awful.
