All Things Must Pass Question
« on: April 16, 2004, 01:18:34 AM »

I heard Bob Dylan Wrote "If not for you"
Can anybody verify?

Without your love I'd be nowhere at all
I'd be lost, if not for you!!!

I've never been a Dylan fan. I only like maybe two of his songs.

I like forever young and how does it feel, I think that's it, I never understood what all the hub-bub was about, I always thought he kinda sucked, I don't know why he is considered a legend by some.

I only like Lay Lady Lay and Blowing In The Wind.

My Dad has a bunch of Dylan albums. I always said he sounded like a vacumn cleaner.

Now you can add a third: If Not For You. :)

That song you call "how does it feel" is Like A Rolling Stone. If you like that, there are lots and lots of Dylan songs you would like too. Look into it; a whole new world might be about to open up for you!

I would say to you and colleen and anyone else who says they don't care for Dylan much: get a copy of the lyrics to the album you're listening to, and follow what Dylan is singing about. Without a lyric sheet to begin with, his songs can be almost unfathomable.

Dylan songs that George Harrison sung, or was associated with:

I'd Have You Anytime (co-written)
If Not For You
I Don't Want To Do It
Abandoned Love (on many boots)
Absolutely Sweet Marie
Every Grain Of Sand

Several Wilburys tracks of course: eg, Dirty World, Congratulations, She's My Baby, Wilbury Twist, Where Were You Last Night.

Have I missed any?

Bob Dylan has written so many songs at so many levels, that no one can really dismiss him out of hand. Uncle Bob has something for everyone!

i couldn't imagine listening to any music of the 60's and not acknowledging that dylan was the most influential force behind ALL of it.   dylan was the ground that all 60's musicians grew out of.     everyone who was anyone in the 60's will agree. his lyrics influenced more people than any other, including lennon, harrison, hendrix, byrds, peter paul and mary, clapton, etc......he's not the end all of everything, but the sixties without dylan would be like removing green form the color chart.....just not the same rainbow

to find on this bootleg

correct but the Harrison and the version  of Olivia Newton John was better as the orginal Dylan Version.

Dylan is easily one of the best songwriters, but it's hard not to agree that his voice is what hinders lots of us from getting into his work at first. I honestly don't see how Beatles fans couldn't like an album like Highway 61 though. Great songwriting AND music on that one.

I'm thinking you should too.

Bob Dylan was good until about 1980 when he caught religion. After that only his Wilbury songs did anything for me.

And you really, REALLY, don't want to heart him 'sing' nowadays.
