People movin' out
People movin' in
Why, because of the color of their skin
Run, run, run, but you sho' can't hide
An eye for an eye
A tooth for a tooth
Vote for me, and I'll set you free
Rap on brother, rap on

Segregation, determination, demonstration,
Integration, aggravation,
Humiliation, obligation to our nation
Ball of Confusion
That's what the world is today

It was 1970...

Motown is the greatest, the toppermost of the '60s, up on the tip of the tower with the Beach Boys and the Beatles. I adore Motown records. Life itself is less colorful, more bloody and hard without a Miracles or Temptations or Marvin & Tammi record to see you through.

In my opinion, this is the greatest of all Motown singles, and that's saying quite a bit. It's quintessential:

I'm a huge fan of the Marvin Gaye and Tammi Terrell duets. This one is my favorite of theirs:

Marvin Gaye & Tammi Terrell - Your Precious Love

The post-Diana Ross Supremes are really underrated. In my opinion, this song is one of the best Motown singles ever:

The Supremes "Up The Ladder To The Roof"

Right on Strawberry Field, now you're talking! MOTOWN produced some of music's all-time greatest acts ever in the 1960's, the list is endless. Here's one from the late great DAVID RUFFIN, enjoy!

I like David Ruffin's cover of I Want You Back

Sheryl Crow covered it too.  She was a back up singer for Michael Jackson when he was on tour in the late 1980s...

I remember hearing that Sheryl Crow was a backup singer for MICHAEL JACKSON. I've seen MICHAEL JACKSON live 5 times, one of them was in California during the "BAD" Tour in 1987. Here's one from MICHAEL JACKSON with THE JACKSON 5, enjoy!

I've always thought that she was beautiful! She's the type of woman that looks better with age.

Tammi Terrell. I wish I had the words to say how much I adore her. That voice...she has got to be my favorite Motown female singer. Diana Ross? HAH!
She is mainly known, of course, as the (greatest) duet partner of Marvin Gaye. They recorded many classics, but I think this is their pinnacle -
https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=g0aWP-uRbAo

...but she recorded some underrated solo tunes, unfortunately forgotten by many.
Check this one out. It's my favorite of her solo singles. Written by Stevie Wonder and would eventually appear on his Hotter Than July album (vastly inferior version IMO), 'All I Do Is Think About You' is sublime, sweet and perfect. The way she sings "if you should discov-uh this dream is for two" leaves me weak in the knees -

Tammi, you are much missed!

Hi Strawberry Field! How are you? TAMMI TERRELL was blessed and gifted with a God-given talent, it is so sad that her life was cut short. The late great MARVIN GAYE never recovered from her death, it broke his heart BAD!

Here's something she cut (pre-Motown) for James Brown's Try Me label, written by him too. Amazing.

And here's the wonderful documentary series Unsung. This is Tammi's episode:
