Hmmm....gotta admit I don't miss 'em. I like the way modern technology lets you skip more easily from song to song.   :)

Nostalgic feelings. I recall countless hours making mix tapes. Getting timings right. Then having the machine chew the tape  :-[

As a busier adult I can't say I miss doing all that. I like being able to whip up a new playlist in a couple of minutes.

I do!  Good ol' analog sound.  The equivalent of vinyl LPs without the clicks and pops.  Reel-to-reel is even better.  You get to hear what the artists heard in the studios when recording was done on tape.

I grew up on tapes, the EMI Beatles albums had the track listing in a different order to vinyl and CD so when I got CD it blew my mind as on tape Revolver started off with Good Days Sunshine instead of Taxman, the White album finished with Revolution 9 instead of Goognight.

I had 'Revolver' and 'Sgt. Pepper...' on reel-to-reel. I'll bet those would be rare collectibles now.

They got me through barracks life in the Air Force in the 80s.  Also, I used to teach fitness classes back in the day and made my own mix tapes.

I don't really miss them.  I like CDs and vinyl a lot more.

Cassette tapes are a definite nostalgia trigger for me! I have a whole basketful of cassettes filled with memories. My dad bought me a portable cassette player when I was young and I was always interviewing my poor family members and just generally being a pest with it. My cousin had one too and her specialty was hiding it during family dinners. She was sneaky but everyone got a good laugh from those. My music mixes were obtained by holding the microphone next to the stereo, radio or TV. Very high quality stuff!

I came across this one not too long ago. I recorded it from my sister's copy of The Second Album. Then at the end it inexplicably has the clearing of the temple from Jesus Christ Superstar, all in glorious awful. This was made long before the Broadway show. LOL

Kev, mate, thanks for starting this thread.  I have cassette players at home and in the car, but you've prompted me to recommission my reel-to-reel tape deck...

This was made long before the Broadway show. LOL

I guess time is relative.  What you considered a "long time" when you made that cassette was really just one year.  The album was released in 1970.  Jesus Christ Superstar opened on Broadway in 1971.

I'm pretty sure of these dates, Kelley, but you can always verify that with Jesus on Facebook.   ;)

If there anyone out there who call recall if there was a fuss made over the changing of the order of tracks on Beatles cassettes?

In 1987 there was much debate over whether the first four LPs should have been re-issued in mono (which they were) or stereo, but changing the track order is scandalous!

It seems incredible to me that EMI should have thought it appropriate (whatever they might have said about running order times) to re-arrange, say, 'Revolver', and I can't believe there wouldn't have been complaints.

God I used to do that. Plonk the cassette player next to the stereo or radio and press record. You couldn't even call it Lo Fi.  More like No Fi.

It was such a revelation when I got a cassette player that was integrated into the stereo and would record properly.

No one ever bought a vinyl LP and thought, 20/30/40 years later, 'Yikes! I wish I'd bought the cassette tape for the same price.'

'Let It Bleed' with a poster, or the cassette? You choose!

At least, I don't think they did, and a casual look at eBay suggests that it wouldn't have made much financial sense either.
