  • What would the The Beatles be without Ringo?
The Beatles In The Lord Of The Rings
« on: December 23, 2004, 06:33:14 AM »

Apparently in the '60s The Beatles and John in particullar wanted to star in a film version of The Lord Of The Rings with Paul as Frodo, Ringo as Sam, George as Gandalf and John as Gollum but J.R.R Tolkien nixed the idea.  I don't know about you guys but I wish they would have done it because I would have loved to have seen it John would be great as Gollum as well as George, Paul and Ringo they would be great in their roles.  If they would have made this movie who here would love to see it?  I know I would love it.

Paul as Frodo,
Ringo as Samwise,
John as Gollum,
George as Gandalf.

Sounds weird, looks weird.

In the back of my mind I could really see John as Gollum and George as Gandalf I think it would have worked.  It would have been better then the 70's animated version of the Lord Of The Rings at any rate.

That would be funny! I think it would downplay the artistic merits of the movie though. people would just go to see it cause "THE BEATLES" were in it and not necessarily because it's a good movie.

WOW! Thata interesting facts. Well You can't blame J.R.R Tolkien for nixing the idea. If the film version was made people would see because of The Beatles not the story and he didn't want that.

Wow...John as Gollum.

That'd rock. XDDD I can totally seem him doing the "my precioussssss..." lines.

George would be an incredibly sexy Gandalf. o_o;;;

...it would be a crazy film. Double-histeria, Lord of the Rings...and the Beatles. Screaming fanpeople and fanpeople in cloaks. o_O

With the cloaks, and the Beatle 'dos, they'd look a bit like monks don't you think?

I am beyond glad this never happened.  John must have been hitting the pestle and mortar a bit hard when this idea came around.

A recipe for disaster if I ever saw one.
Much as I love The Beatles their "acting" makes Elvis look like Brando.
Thank god it never happened.

LOL!!! I have to agree with you there! I thought John and Ringo were about the best of the four... but that view is bound to cause an argument! ;D

I'd love to see it. I was talking about this before in class and someone said that they wouldn't want it to be, they wouldn't like it. I asked why and they said because Orlando Bloom wouldn't be in it, and there'd be no sexy guys... *rolls eyes* IS THAT ALL IT'S ABOUT THESE DAYS?????

Rock 'N Roll Case Study: Rejected Film Projects by the Beatles
Most casual fans of the Beatles know their films: "A Hard Day's Night", "Help", "Magical Mystery Tour", "Yellow Submarine" and "Let It Be". But, did you know that they also considered starring in versions of "The Lord of the Rings" and "The Three Musketeers"? There were also approached by Disney to do some songs for "The Jungle Book". This essay explores the rejected film projects of the Beatles.

Rejected Film Projects by the Beatles
By Ronnie

Right: The three Beatles movies, not counting "Magical Mystery Tour" (TV movie) and "Yellow Submarine" (animated)

During the time period that the Beatles were a functioning band, they only had five officially released film projects: "A Hard Day's Night," "HELP," "Magical Mystery Tour", "Yellow Submarine" and "Let It Be." A Hard Day's Night (1964) and Help! (1965) were the first two of a three-picture deal that the group had entered with United Artists. Finding a third film that could be agreed on by all four Beatles had become difficult. Remember, the search for this third film fell during the final touring years of the Fab Four, when the band was ready to shed the lovable moptop image that had been portrayed in the first two films.

In 1967 Brian Epstein negotiated

If they made LOTR I think Nowhere Man would be a great song for Gollum.
